Job Description:

Lead Maintenance & GroundsOne (1) Inland Lakes Schools full time, year round, (8 hours per day) maintenance position with willingness, ability, and availability to drive an Inland Lakes Schools bus on an as needed basis.

Directs and supervises the maintenance operation of the District. Provides leadership in planning, managing, and evaluating the operation of the District. Responsible for providing a safe physical environment for students, employees, the public, and to have every school operational each school day.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Oversee routine maintenance and repairs for all district facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and grounds keeping.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure all facilities and equipment are kept in optimal condition.
  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment regularly to identify maintenance needs and ensure safety standards are met.

Project Management

  • Coordinate and supervise capital improvement projects, renovations, and other facility upgrades in collaboration with contractors, vendors, and district staff.
  • Prepare and manage budgets for maintenance operations, ensuring cost- effective use of district funds.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance requests, completed work, and ongoing projects.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with local, state, and federal regulations, including safety codes and health standards.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols for maintenance staff and facilities.
  • Respond to emergency situations such as equipment failures, severe weather incidents, or other facility-related crises to ensure minimal disruption to school operations.

Inventory & Supplies Management

  • Manage the inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment, and order necessary items as needed.
  • Establish relationships with vendors to source cost-effective materials and services.
  • Track and maintain records for equipment maintenance, warranties, and replacements.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with school principals, custodial staff, and district administrators to address maintenance needs and coordinate facility use.
  • Participate in planning and development meetings to align maintenance activities with district goals and school calendars.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and stakeholders regarding maintenance schedules, ongoing projects, and safety procedures.

Qualifications

  • Appropriate educational background.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the basic principles of construction, maintenance, security, grounds keeping, custodial operations, and employee safety.
  • At least three (3) years experience in the area of planning or maintaining physical facilities.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); trade school or technical certification in maintenance or facilities management (preferred)/willing to learn.
  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical) and building codes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer programs for maintenance scheduling, budgeting, and communication.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds, work on ladders, and perform physical activities associated with maintenance tasks.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as required by emergencies or district needs.
  • Ability to respond to emergency maintenance requests on short notice.
