Salary : $55,556.80 - $70,699.20 AnnuallyLocation : Clermont, FLJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 01137Department: Public ServicesDivision: Sewer OperationsOpening Date: 10/29/2024Closing Date: ContinuousGeneral DescriptionOPEN UNTIL FILLED This position assists in the operations, repair, and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and related equipment for the City. Work is performed under general supervision.This position is non-exempt. Fair Labor Standards Act overtime provisions will apply.Per Florida Statute 295.065, certain servicemembers and veterans, and the spouses and family members of such servicemembers and veterans, receive preference and priority, and that certain servicemembers may be eligible to receive waivers for postsecondary educational requirements, in employment by the state and its political subdivisions and are encouraged to apply for the positions being filled. Primary Duties•Assists and supervises the operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.•Assists and supervises wastewater treatment plant personnel.•Assists in the training of operator trainees and new certified operators.•Works with the Operations Chief in the preparation of employee performance evaluations.•Collects samples for testing and interprets the results of testing to properly operate the wastewater treatment plant.•Treats wastewater entering plant; works closely with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP); and interprets rules and regulations to ensure that the treatment plant is in compliance.•Performs maintenance and repairs to all wastewater treatment equipment.•Performs actual plant operations and corrects plant malfunctions.•Performs manual labor such as mowing, building maintenance, operating small equipment, etc.•Maintains home telephone and may be placed on emergency call outs. May be required to work rotating shifts, on call duties, and extended hours in emergency situations.•Establishes and maintains efficient and effective records; and compiles data and prepares various records, reports, and other documentation, including the preparation of accurate monthly and yearly reports, that are submitted to governing agencies for compliance and permitting.•Assists with administrative/clerical functions such as entering and retrieving computer data, sending and receiving correspondence, and organizing and filing documents.•Provides excellent customer service, communicating effectively and courteously with internal and external customers.•Attends various meetings and training to enhance job knowledge and skills•Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED supplemented by courses in maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Two (2) years of experience in operation, maintenance and repair of treatment equipment.
  • Valid Florida Class C Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license.
  • Obtain a Florida Class B Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator license within two (2) years of hire.
  • Possess a Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License with an air brake endorsement within six (6) months from the date of employment.
  • Certified in Confined Space Entry is preferred.
  • Obtain FEMA IS100, IS700 within six (6) months from date of employment.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License
In some cases, an equivalent combination of higher education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience is in a relevant and related field. Essential Physical Functions & Environmental ConditionsPhysical Demands
  • Continual light work and occasional heavy work.
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 80 pounds.
  • Requires frequent walking and standing, climbing, stooping, reaching, and bending.
  • Good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination.
  • Good eyesight, hearing, and speech.
  • Regular driving of vehicle.
  • Must be able to wear personal protection equipment (PPE).
Work Environment Works outside in sometimes adverse environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, and rain) for moderate periods of time. Exposure to construction and water/wastewater site hazards, traffic, and moving machinery.
