Come build your career with BAE SystemsIn Precision Strike & Sensing Solutions, we design and manufacture state-of-the-art systems and technology that enable our customers to execute their precision strike missions.The Navigation & Sensing Systems team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to work on the development of a new sensor solution for use in precision weapon systems. This new role will help lead the engineering efforts to create a scalable architecture of common card assemblies to meet a variety of weapon platform needs. Experience working on product line solutions that can scale to various needs of different markets is therefore required. This work will involve solving complex system of systems problems ranging from low-cost weapons solutions to exquisite weapon solutions. Serving as a Lead Engineer, you will influence a multi-disciplinary team of engineers in developing and implementing a well-planned system engineering approach that results in successful definition and realization of a scalable solution. This role will lead the sensor system execution and development activities to advance our strategic position to win business, disrupt competition, and accelerate successful execution of customer mission objectives.This position will be required to work across both organizational boundaries and across numerous stakeholders such as customers, senior leaders, business development, and other engineering functions. It will also require the candidate to be experienced in working in modern digital engineering and model-based engineering environments. As this role will be to serve as a lead within the team, having multiple years of past leadership experience will be expected.These requirements and other required skills / experiences are captured below.*Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires US citizenship status*Required Education, Experience, & Skills Minimum education and related/relevant years of work experience required: Bachelor of Science in Engineering and minimum of 12 years of related, proven experience successfully leading system engineering activities; or a Master of Science in Engineering and minimum of 10 years of related experience.Additional skills/experience required:
  • Demonstrated ability to capture customer requirements and conceptual operations to create systems definition and breakdown for large systems
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and influence multi-disciplinary teams in complex systems engineering across the product development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated successful leadership, time management and conflict resolution skills with geographically diverse team members
  • Demonstrated leadership capability to operate strategically, working across organizational boundaries to define the critical requirements and designs and drive change through influence
  • Experience conducting science and technology research, analysis, trade studies, system definition (requirements, architecture, and interfaces), integration, and test of complex systems.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically to support team interactions
  • Experience in digital engineering and model-based systems engineering principles and tools
  • At least five years in a leadership role within the defense sector
  • Project and process management skills, including proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-starter with a keen sense of ownership and commitment to the work, and a passion to deliver results
  • Proven experience leading development on geographically diverse teams; strong coaching and mentoring skills; ability to achieve results through others
  • Experience architecting new systems and products.
  • Experience leading requirement development of complex systems and system of systems
  • Experience performing hardware, firmware, and software integration, verification and validation activities
  • Collaborating with other systems integrators, hardware, software, and firmware engineers to resolve system issues
  • Active United States security clearance; Top Secret, SCI Eligible
  • Familiarity with engineering development tools like DOORS, Matlab, Simulink, Enterprise Architect or MagicDraw, etc.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Experience with implementing Modular Open System Approach and related industry guidelines (ex. FACE, SOSA, HOST, CMOS)
  • Experience with modern software languages (e.g Java, C, C++ C#, Python, perl, etc.)
  • Experience capturing numerous customers' needs to define and create a scalable common architecture
  • Operational Test Experience with customers to understand how to develop and demonstrate products at an operational level
  • MS degree or advanced certifications in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 15+ years demonstrated experience in design, integration, and test of large complex systems.
  • 10+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary team of engineers in executing systems projects and programs.
  • Experience developing proposals, ECPs, and whitepapers focused on new business.
  • Experience with customer/stakeholder communication, management, relationship building, and customer satisfaction.
  • Proven success in architecting new products or expanding into new market segments
Pay InformationFull-Time Salary Range: $147300 - $250400Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
