OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY An Academic Mentor contributes to student learning, growth, and advancement by teaching skills essential for student success. Academic mentors will have caseloads as assigned by the Director Academic Support checking in with students, helping develop timelines, study strategies and test taking skills. Academic mentors must demonstrate patience, empathy and understanding and serves as a role-model for students. Academic mentors must collaborate effectively with faculty, peer tutors and LLC staff and the organization to increase student performance. SHIFTS
- Shifts Available: Monday-Friday 8:30am-6:00pm, Sundays 4:00pm-7:00pm
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Academic Mentor will work with all students in understanding the skills necessary to be successful at the CIA-time management, organization, study strategies, Moodle training.
- Work in both group and individual sessions, virtually using Microsoft Teams and in person
- Integrates study and learning strategies to promote systematic, independent learning designed to maximize potential for academic progress.
- Responsible for covering assigned hours in the Library Learning Commons, ensuring students receive attention and assistance as needed.
- Develops a familiarity with computers, software, and other individual instructional materials.
- Prepares and updates electronic student records and visit notes after each session.
- Participates in data collection, reporting systems and professional development offerings.
- Maintains ongoing communications with the Director Academic Support
- Any and all other duties as assigned
PREREQUISITES
- Must have completed 1 semester at the CIA
- Minimum of 2.75 GPA
- Proficient in Moodle
- Prior tutoring or mentoring experience is preferred but not required.

Successful applicant must be able to perform all related functions of the assignment which may include working nights and weekends and ability to work in person or virtually using Microsoft Teams.
