OPPORTUNITY SUMMARYSenior Peer Tutor, serves as a supervisory role, training the peer tutors, conducting workshops and assisting the Director Academic Support with newer tutors and how to best assist them. Demonstrates academic competence in subject area(s) excellent customer service and hospitality skills. excellent communication skills and interpersonal intelligence, the ability to facilitate another student's learning through examples and dialog, and the ability to suggest and demonstrate specific study strategies for particular classes. t.SHIFTS
  • Shifts Available: Monday-Friday 8:30am-6:00pm, Sundays 4:00pm-7:00pm
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise and train peer tutors, conducting workshops and assisting the Director Academic Support
  • Tutors students in specific course material in both group and individual sessions, virtually using Microsoft Teams and in person
  • Integrates study and learning strategies to promote systematic, independent learning designed to maximize potential for academic progress.
  • Responsible for covering assigned hours in the Library Learning Commons, ensuring students receive attention and assistance as needed.
  • Develops a familiarity with computers, software, and other individual instructional materials.
  • Prepares and updates electronic student records and visit notes after each session.
  • Participates in data collection, reporting systems and professional development offerings.
  • Maintains ongoing communications with the Director Academic Support
  • Any and all other duties as assigned
PREREQUISITES
  • Must have previous peer tutor experience at the CIA
  • At least an A- in the classes you wish to tutor
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Recommendation from Faculty
PREFERRED PRIOR EXPERIENCES
  • Emotional maturity and stability
  • Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable and cooperative with a sense of humor.
  • Ability to take supervision and correction constructively
  • Ability to positively supervise students
SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING OUTCOMES OF ASSIGNMENT
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and adhering to standards of operational excellence, safety, efficiency and educational goals set by the CIA.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with guests, students, and faculty/staff.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.
Successful applicant must be able to perform all related functions of the assignment which may include working nights and weekends and ability to work in person or virtually using Microsoft Teams.
