In reflecting upon the bigger, essential questions that arise from their self-examination and academic work alike, Browning boys are inspired to seek a deeper level of understanding and to build a sense of purpose that will engage their passions and skills in the service of the world beyond themselves.POSITION DESCRIPTION Browning is looking for a temporary Leave Replacement Grade 1 Head Teacher for February-June 2025. The position is expected to begin on February 19, 2025, and continue through the end of school year, on or around June 9, 2025. The salary range for this position is $22,000-$27,000. Key ResponsibilitiesHead teachers are responsible for building strong relationships with students and colleagues in order to deliver the content and curriculum of the Browning program. Successful Browning teachers believe in and desire the growth of all their students and have a passion for the art, craft, and science of pedagogy. Ultimately, teachers are responsible for the most important work of our Schoolknowing our boys and teaching them well. Among other things, this Grade 1 Head Teacher (Leave Replacement) is tasked with:
  • Planning and delivering instruction in reading, language arts, writing, mathematics, and social studies to a homeroom class of 11 students
  • Shepherding both the social-emotional and academic growth of the boys in your care
  • Cultivating a classroom environment that is warm and welcoming, while holding students to high expectations for excellence
  • Creating strong relationships with students built on Browning's core values of honesty, dignity, curiosity, and purpose
  • Collaborating as a professional, collegial, and inspirational member of the faculty and the Grade 1 teaching team
  • Communicating with families about curricular and student matters on a regular basis, including in written reports and parent-teacher conferences in April 2025
  • Performing non-classroom duties such as dismissal and lunch duty

    A successful Grade 1 Head Teacher (Leave Replacement) will possess most or all of the following:
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferred) in elementary education or a related field
    • Experience working with Lower School aged children in a school setting
    • Knowledge and appreciation of working with boys
    • Strong classroom management skills in creating a warm and productive learning environment for all students
    • Knowledge of teaching pedagogy in literacy, math, and social studies
    • Understanding and appreciation of teaching students from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to proactively collaborate with students, faculty, and families
    • Refined writing and organizational skills
