The Murphy Law Firm â ¢ Upper Marlboro, MD, USPosted 15 days agoDescriptionWe're seeking a sharp legal assistant for our busy law firm who can help our attorneys and paralegals assist our clients and keep the office running smoothly. You'll work with the team to prepare a variety of legal documents and handle office correspondence like answering emails and phone calls, scheduling meetings and travel, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines. If you're an excellent multitasker who thrives in a fast-paced environment, we want to hear from you!ResponsibilitiesHandle office correspondence and administrative tasks such as responding to emails, phone calls, communicating with opposing attorney offices, binder prep, picking up the mail, preparing welcome boxes, keeping attorneys abreast of their scheduled court appearances, open and close files, and reminding the team of upcoming deadlines.Assist with the creation of various litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, subpoenas, affidavits, contracts, and briefs for case preparation, and proofread documents as needed.Ensure client billing is processed properly using daily time records with assistance from the accounting department.Arrange travel, schedule meetings and appointments for the team, such as depositions, and coordinate with outside vendors for events.Undertake other duties as needed to ensure the firm operates efficiently.This position is a mix of working in the office and running errands, and we anticipate that this position will begin at approximately 35-40 hours/week and has the potential to become full-time.We are a small but fully staffed law firm with three Attorneys, a case manager, three paralegals, a client impression expert, two directors of client engagement, and a billing specialist. As the Legal Office Assistant, you are here to be the go-to person for office assistance.QualificationsMust be a resident of the Upper Marlboro area in Prince George's County, Maryland.Must be detail-oriented, patient, and punctual.Must be a notary.Must be willing to learn software applications.Must be familiar with mail practices.Must be willing to drop everything and file documents with the Courts and run unexpected errands.Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle with valid automobile insurance that includes medical coverage for yourself and others involved in a vehicle accident while you are working.Must be familiar with Google Drive and G-Suite products.PreferencesFamily law experience is highly desired.Comfortable working with all Microsoft Office products.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines with quick turnaround times.1-2 years of prior experience in a law firm environment as a secretary or administrative assistant.Associate's degree, or some college is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent is necessary.Candidates must have worked with legal software, case management, and docketing programs.Compensation$41,600About The Murphy Law FirmThe Murphy Law Firm primarily handles family law and estate planning matters in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
