Job Description:
eliminating racism empowering women YWCA Lancaster YWCA Lancaster is looking for a full-time Legal Advocate, who is an integral part of our team.What your day looks like:
  • Prepare Temporary Protection from Abuse (PFA), Sexual Violence Protection Orders (SVPO), Petitions and other necessary documents to be presented to the courts and DVLC attorneys. Interview and thoroughly inform victims of appropriate legal options to include Temporary PFA filings, Final PFA Amendments and Withdrawals, Defiant Trespass Letters - and the steps and implications of these choices.
  • Accompany victims to PFA court and other legal proceedings in order to assist, advocate and provide emotional support, to include any additional follow-up.
  • Work collaboratively with Bail Administration, Court Administration, Office of Prothonotary, Sheriff's Department and DVLC attorneys to assure prompt filings of PFA Petitions.
  • Administers evaluation tools and compiles data as needed.
  • Completes 40-hour Sexual Assault Prevention and Counseling Training Course and completes a minimum of 12 hours of additional related trainings per year.
  • Completes the 45-hour Domestic Violence training.
  • Attends related community meetings as assigned.
  • Maintains client files, providing information for reports as needed.
  • Maintains related service statistics; keep program statistics and other records as assigned.
  • Participates in case management, supervision, and consults with the Director of SAPCC.
  • Serve as staff back-up on 24-hour rape crisis hotline rotation.
  • Participate in at least one YWCA Lancaster mission related activity/event.
  • Adheres to all YWCA Lancaster policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Who you are:
  • Candidates must possess the desire and ability to embody the YWCA's mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.
  • Adherence to confidentiality policies; commitment to the rights of all victim survivors.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, Psychology, or related field is preferred.
  • Experience in trauma informed counseling preferred.
  • Completion of Sexual Assault Counselor training is a plus.
  • Knowledge of local sexual assault programs considered.
