Job Description:

We are looking for an organized and professional Legal Assistant to join our law firm. This individual will provide vital assistance to attorneys that practice in the areas of general liability, financial services and securities, and employment defense litigation matters. Ideal candidates should have 3+ years of experience in handling case-related tasks, preparing a variety of legal documentation, and managing case files. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proficient in legal terminology, and understands the electronic filing procedures in New York District and Federal Courts. This will be full-time, hybrid role with the possibility of transitioning into a hybrid work week.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to lawyers in the preparation, review and filing of legal documents such as briefs, appeals, complaints, answers, etc.
  • Conduct thorough case research pertaining to ongoing lawsuits.
  • Communicate with clients on various aspects of case proceedings.
  • Locate, develop, and manage all case relevant information.
  • Draft legal documents including pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs.
  • Coordinate with legal experts and serve as a liaison for all involved parties.
  • Schedule and prepare materials for court appearances.
  • Assist attorneys in case preparation by creating and maintaining organizational systems for each case.
  • Assist attorneys with trial preparation, develop trial exhibits, and review/organize documents for trial discovery.
  • Maintain attorney schedules and calendars.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, Paralegal Certificate or equivalent experience
  • Prior work experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or related role in litigation.
  • Familiarity with law, legal procedures, and protocols
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Odyssey, Pacer and ECF Filing Systems.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
  • Strong understanding of client confidentiality rules.
  • Experience using iManage a plus
