Overview The Philadelphia office of Kaufman Dolowich, an AV-rated® firm designated one of the Best Companies to Work For among U.S. law firms by U.S. News & World Report, is seeking candidates for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal position. The Legal Assistant/Paralegal works directly with our attorneys to prepare for upcoming cases and gets involved in fact-finding projects. The individual manages attorney caseloads by being organized, professional, responsible, and committed to helping the Firm meet all our clients' needs. The candidate would be joining a growing, dynamic firm with more than 200 attorneys nationwide. Responsibilities and Duties:
- Collaborate with attorneys to prepare for trials, hearings, and meetings.
- Utilizes existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases.
- Drafts discovery demands and responses, including, but not limited to, Requests for Production, Interrogatories, Notices for Discovery and Inspection and Requests for Admissions.
- Processes deposition transcripts.
- Prepares trial and arbitration hearing binders.
- Assists with drafting documents such as: Motion to Strike, Motion for Continuances, Proposed Orders, Requests for Judicial Notice, Evidentiary Objections, etc.
- Assists with e-filing in State, Federal and Appellate Courts and checks the Court's local rules.
- Prepares timelines and demonstrative exhibits.
- Drafts routine legal correspondence.
- Prepares first set of exhibits for motions, discovery responses, etc.
- Reviews outgoing document production, including redacting and Bates stamping.
- Creates Preservation of Evidence Letter and Document Request Letters.
- Performs legal research via WestLaw.
- Assisting with office administration tasks.
- Reviews, summarize and analyze medical records to assist with defense of action.
- Other duties, as needed, to support the firm and office operations.
Qualifications
- Previous law firm experience (4+ years).
- Litigation experience.
- Exceptional organization skills.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workload.
- Team oriented.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of legal terminology and principles.
- Ability to analyze legal documents and ensure accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with limited guidance.
