Job Description:

A new developing private asset lender is looking for a legal counsel! This company provides loans ranging from $100,000 to 3M to residential real estate investors.

The legal counsel will primarily be responsible for loan closing processes, drafting terms, agreements, and negotiations.

Title: Legal Counsel Closing Attorney

Location: Westport, CT (5 days on-site)

Potential Compensation: $100,000 – $200,000 +B

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic legal advice on a broad range of legal subject areas which may specifically include responsibility for one or more areas of legal specialization within the company.
  • Work closely with, and provide support to, senior management and employees at all levels of the company on legal issues, risks, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Draft, negotiate, analyze, and review a broad range of documents and corporate agreements, legal memoranda, letters, and other legal documents upon request.
  • Stay current and provide legal analyses of applicable laws, regulations, and industry guidance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of various legal templates, forms, communications, and operational systems to improve the delivery and scalability of legal resources by working collaboratively with other team members.
  • Proactively communicate issues back to leadership and drive sound business, legal, and operational processes, and practices throughout the organization, drafting and implementing related policies
  • Maintain knowledge of the organization's operations and legal documents
  • Promulgate and create directives for corporate actions and decisions
  • Maintain all corporate documents
  • Handle statutory filings, such as licensing forms

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience at an independent mortgage lending company
  • Experience with corporate governance issues and corporate secretarial duties
  • Proficient legal experience in mortgage compliance, labor & employment, and M&A
  • Experience with FHA, VA, Fannie MAE, Freddie Mac and Ginnie Mae preferred
  • Juris doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to be diplomatic, resulting in the ability to interact with all levels of management and employee population
  • Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of the sensitive aspects of business and confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently but within a team framework with high attention to detail, strong organization skills, and management focus
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks to provide high-quality work to meet internal and external deadlines.
