Job Description:

Position Summary:

The Office of Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson seeks a Legislative Director to lead and manage legislative priorities and initiatives. Congresswoman Wilson serves as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development and the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials. She is also the founder and chair of the U.S. Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of the legislative strategy to advance the Congresswoman's agenda.
  • Manage and mentor the legislative staff to ensure effective operations and growth.
  • Oversee legislative, policy, and constituent correspondence activities.
  • Brief and prepare the Congresswoman for meetings, hearings, votes, markups, and other events.
  • Draft and review legislative materials, including bills, memos, talking points, floor speeches, op-eds, and committee reports.
  • Track and maintain current status reports on relevant legislation, including bills sponsored or cosponsored by the Congresswoman.
  • Collaborate with Senate offices on companion bills and develop new legislative initiatives aligned with the Congresswoman's state legislative priorities.
  • Assist constituents and organizations in the district with federal matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth expertise in policy development and management.
  • Strong understanding of the legislative process, including House floor and committee procedures.
  • Excellent writing, communication, research, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and collaborate with federal agencies, advocates, and stakeholders.
  • Strong academic credentials.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Legislative Director or senior policy staff.
  • Extensive experience in legislative strategy and management within a congressional office.
  • Expertise in education or transportation policy.
  • Proven ability to write compelling speeches, statements, talking points, questions, op-eds, and correspondence.
  • A graduate or law degree is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Florida policy issues or strong ties to the state are a plus.

Location and Compensation:

The position is based in the Washington, DC office, with occasional travel to Florida. Salary is commensurate with experience.
