Job DescriptionThis position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funds. Responsibilities- Provides overall leadership and coordination to ensure CARC educational research and outreach activities are compliant with the federal language access policy under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Improves the quality of educational programs and materials for audiences with limited English proficiency and support Cooperative Extension and Cooperative Agricultural Research Center colleagues to engage audiences in ways that ensure full access to programs, facilities, and educational services. Coordinates and standardizes a process for translating text-based educational content used. Builds, strengthens and sustains trust-based relationships to promote cooperative and respectful work environments.
- Develops a Limited English Proficiency plan and implement these plans into research programs.
- Serves as a liaison with headquarter staff that are needing translation and interpretation service vendors to ensure that the final product reflect quality standards that are appropriate for the intended LEP audience. Supervises members and activities carried out by the Language Access Coordinators. Builds relationships with all contracted translators and interpreters to articulate the outreach programs and intended needs of audiences. Assists with staff requests for LEP support in the CARC program areas.
- Evaluates translated documents with the intended audience to determine if they were relevant, useful and appropriate. Conducts and reports on program evaluations to improve program effectiveness and demonstrate the value to programmatic and funding partners. Develops impact documents for submission to the national and state impact data portal indicating program growth; plan in service trainings for staff; prepares quarterly and annual impact document and on-demand reporting requests.
- Be responsive to evolving position, program office and organizational needs. Monitors translation/interpretation budget and communicate with Executive Associate Directors and Communications Director about the adequacy of funding and the pace of spending. Establishes educational resources portal and design standards to improve access for all Extension colleagues.
- Creates an advisory task force with organizational constituents to identify ongoing needs for language access support and training within programming. Maintains a work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to get along with customers, co-workers and supervisor.
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Required Education and Experience:- Bachelor's degree
- Four (4) years of related experience.
Required Certification(s)/Licensure(s):- Valid Texas driver's license
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead others and employ effective group facilitation skills.
- Demonstrate best practices in translation and interpretation and cultural adaptation of resources; superior communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills in a team setting.
- Ability to build business relationships with translation vendors and ensure they understand the needs of CARC and its intended audiences.
- Ability to meet deadlines for multiple ongoing projects.
Preferred Qualifications: - Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in one or more of the following: staff development and training in higher education and land-grant institutions; assessment and accountability of program outcomes; design and conduct trainings, conferences and educational workshops.
