Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/LibrarianDate Posted: 9/18/2024Location: 120 ANDERSON ELEMENTARYJob Title: Librarian/Media Specialist Reports to: Principal Date Revised: 04/29/24 Primary Purpose: Direct the operation of the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to ensure that library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school. Knowledge of curricular areas is essential in order to serve the interdisciplinary needs of the learning community. It is the goal of the Media Specialist to work in a flexible enrichment, collaborating with staff, teaching skills to students and staff, and maintaining the holdings of the Media Center. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Valid Texas Teacher Certification Required Master's degree in Library media center and information science from accredited college or university (for individuals certified after January 23, 2001) or Master's degree in Leadership or Educational Media Specialist preferred Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement preferredSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Experience with multiple forms of instructional technology Knowledge of library and information science Ability to instruct and manage student behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience: One year experience in library/media center in public school setting preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instruction 1. Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students and other library users to help them locate resources and use research techniques. Serve as an information resource for users of library/media center materials. 2. Collaborates with instructional coaches, digital learning specialists, campus leaders, district leaders and teachers to provide instructional strategies and resources in teaching information and technology literacy skills. Assists staff to ensure technology is utilized to the fullest extent possible through meaningful integration into the district adopted curriculum. Assists leaders in determining technology in-service needs. 3. Work with teachers to convey appropriate use of materials and help schedule materials for classroom instructional use. Encourage the appropriate use of video programing and other media for educational purposes. 4. Design, develop, and present staff development for teachers on the availability and use of campus and district learning resources.Library Programs 5. Plan and implement an effective school library program that meets identified needs and create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students. 6. Maintains an accurate and current inventory of media materials and equipment and submits reports in a timely manner. Make recommendations for acquisitions and manage the the processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, and inventory of library/media resources. 7. Assist teachers in preparation of bibliographies and curriculum guides. 8. Develop and maintain up-to-date resource files including instructional program schedules and other community resources and prepares materials for circulation. 9. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. 10. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on the findings. Student Management 11. Carry out student discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations. Administration 12. Compile, budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs. 13. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. 14. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Customer Care Skills 15. Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals at all times. 16. Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly. Take reliable messages, and route to the appropriate staff. 17. Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of going the extra mile for others. 18. Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe. 19. Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct the work of clerical aide(s), student aides, and volunteers.
