As an accountable team member, participates in planning and goal setting, assessing needs and providing services in accordance with library policies and practices. Backs up team members, and assists others as needed. Some evening and weekend/alternate hours required. This position is located at the Greenwich Library, 101 West Putnam Ave. Greenwich, CT 06830. QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university (preferred), or Master's Degree in Library and Information Science in progress and must possess the degree within seven months of appointment to the position. One year of reference experience in a public library is preferred.QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of adult, teen, and/or children's literature or services in all formats. Knowledge of professional library principles, methods, materials and administrative practices and a willingness to work with patrons of all ages. Working knowledge, skill and ability in the use of online databases. Demonstrated ability to operate a wide variety of computer, audiovisual and office equipment related to library operations including the use of computer hardware and library software products. Ability to make decisions based on established policies and procedures. Ability to listen and communicate in an honest, direct and tactful manner in meetings and one-on-one with team members. Ability to work independently and with other team members to carry out all of the tasks and charges that are required to give excellent service. Ability to manage time, to set priorities and communicate with other team members as needed. Ability to physically perform the duties of the position shelving books, setting up and troubleshooting equipment, etc. Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach, climb stools and push fully loaded book trucks in the performance of the work. Ability to work well with volunteer and community groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with library patrons, trustees, volunteers, town officials and other staff members including the ability to deal tactfully, and communicate effectively and harmoniously, Job Description Department: Greenwich LibraryDivision: VariousClassification: Non-RepresentedReports to: Librarian III, Library Manager, or Library Director. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides reference and readers' advisory services in person, by mail, telephone or electronically to library patrons of all ages using appropriate library materials in all formats. Responsible for effectively and clearly communicating to library patrons the practices and policies of the library. Participates in collection development, guided by the library's collection development policy. May assist with the selection of materials in one or more specific areas for adults, young adults and/or children. Assists library patrons and staff in using technology. Conducts formal training sessions. Identifies and resolves routine equipment requests involving copiers, printers, personal computers, tablets, ereaders and other electronic devices. Prepares displays, exhibits, book lists, blogs and bibliographies. May contribute website and social media content relating to an area of library service. May prepare team schedules for staff members.May serve as liaison to schools or other community groups, and may conduct story hours and school class visits to the library, in accordance with professional theory and developmental guidelines within a public library experience. Implements and may initiate outreach programs and training for groups of all ages. May serve as virtual librarian, responding to e-mail queries from the public and other libraries and patrons. May provide input to reports, minutes, and letters for Team, Library Board of Trustees, etc. related to library policy, programming and/or school related activities. Keeps current with developments in the library profession. Attends professional meetings and conferences, participates in team planning and goal setting. Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach, climb stools and push fully loaded book trucks in the performance of the work. Performs related work as required.
