The circulation team is responsible for greeting patrons, opening library accounts, taking payments, and answering general questions both in person and over the phone. Additionally, you will be part of the team that handles the movement of library materials including shelving, shelf-reading, patron returns and holds. Ideal candidates for the on-call position will be adaptable and responsive, enjoy public service, and have a flexible schedule. We seek candidates that have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including people of all ages, families, volunteers, co-workers and community partners. Shifts vary and are generally Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and evenings. Candidates must have the ability to work at least one on-call shift every two months if shifts are available. While some shifts will be scheduled in advance, on-call Library Assistants are also expected to be available to periodically accept additional shifts on short notice.   • Provides friendly and proactive customer service to community members of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Works several hours a day at a public service desk answering questions, opening library card accounts, taking payments, explaining policies, and locating materials for library patrons.
  • Resolves minor customer account issues.
  • Abilities to work and communicate with a team on tasks and knows when and how to ask for help from coworkers.
  • Organizes and moves library materials from book drops, carts, and crates. Accurately shelves library materials.
Job SpecificationsRequired Education, Training and Experience(Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties of this position. Prior work experience and educational requirements listed are typical ways of obtaining the required qualifications. Other equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.)
  • High school diploma or GED desired.
  • One year of computer, clerical, customer service and/or library experience, may be volunteer experience, desired.
