Supports faculty and students in obtaining needed materials through interlibrary loan and document delivery services.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesGood basic mathematic abilities to calculate fines and fees for library customers and for other areas of the job as needed.Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate ideas and problems effectively.Strong problem-solving skills to prevent and correct mistakes and create alternative ways to complete a task successfully.Good listening skills to understand internal and external customer requests and issues, be able to address or refer to the appropriate person or department.Ability to provide basic research skills in locating library resources to answer customer questions.Understanding of copyright as it applies to academic libraries (interlibrary loans, document delivery and course reserves).Required QualificationsEducation: Library technology certificate or AA required; any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Experience: Three or more years of academic library experience with processing interlibrary loans, document delivery requests and circulation functions required. Medical library experience preferred.Excellent computer skills to utilize library software programs; Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, ILLiad; other software needed for the position.Ability to effectively troubleshoot basic technical issues and refer issues to the appropriate department if needed.Displays good basic research skills in locating library resources to answer customer questions.Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills.Displays excellent customer service skills when interacting with internal and external customers; foster a positive team environment.Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills, ability to give effective presentations.Detail oriented and quick learner; work must be highly accurate.Knowledge of copyright laws as they pertain to interlibrary loan, document delivery and course reserves.Preferred QualificationsAcademic Medical library experience, working knowledge of databases and resources used in a medical library, including electronic resources.Knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.Knowledge of library procedures.Key ResponsibilitiesProvides excellent customer service support by effectively and accurately answering questions in person, by telephone, email and chat; displays an approachable, friendly and professional demeanor with effective verbal and non-verbal communication.Assists library customers with use of the online catalog and provide basic training on library resources and equipment.Circulates library materials; collects fines and fees; processes holds; sorts and distributes incoming/outgoing mail; processes fax requests and performs opening and closing procedures for all floors as needed.Assists students with study room reservations upon request and manages study room keys.Receive Interlibrary Loan requests by phone, email, and online forms; process requests using Docline and ILLiad software.Receive Document Delivery requests, locate articles, scan and deliver using ILLiad's Odyssey software.Assist other library departments with special projects as needed including library exhibits, displays and events. Serve on library committees. Effectively lead general tours of the Pumerantz Library for individuals and groups.Participates and supports library marketing efforts including student, faculty, and staff events and other promotional activities.Effectively provides basic reference assistance including the use of print and electronic resources to students, faculty and staff.Processes faculty reserve requests for print books and articles, media and models.Accurately enters all money collected daily into the ILS and cash register, balance cash drawer and run/print all cash reports. Adds money to patron accounts and troubleshoots print management system. Handles refunds as needed.Shelves books; searches for missing, lost and overdue materials ensuring library items are in their correct location by shelf reading. Processes books/journals/media and accurately enters data into the ILS.
