Job DescriptionDescription: The Minnesota State Law Library is pleased to announce an opening for a Library Assistant. This is a permanent part time position performing clerical library work. Work involves performing a wide range of library tasks that support the mission of the library. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Library Division Supervisor. This is a part-time position. Expected to work 15 hour per week.Examples of Job duties: The following are examples of major job duties expected for this position to perform:
  • Shelve library materials.
  • Oversee overdue materials including checking the shelves for materials and following-up with patrons who have overdue materials.
  • Review and redact briefs for uploading to the library's online brief archive.
  • Update library materials with pocket parts.
  • Use scanners to digitize books, papers, and microfiche.
  • Shelf read to maintain correct order of materials.
  • Perform database maintenance.
  • Other projects as needed.
Typical Qualifications: Any combination of education, training, and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below will be considered. Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma Required
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in a library-related degree
  • Experience working in a library.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read and understand English.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Self-motivation and detail-orientation
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and move boxes up to 30 lbs.
Salary: The expected starting salary range for external candidates is $21.43-$26.27 per hour ($16,715-$20,490 annually). The full salary range for this position is $21.43-$31.10 per hour ($16,715 -$24,258 annually). This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits. Supplemental Information: Position Logistics: This is a part-time, permanent position and is classified as a Library Assistant II. This position will work during normal business hours, 15 hours per week Monday-Friday. Work will be performed on-site in the Minnesota State Library at the Minnesota Judicial Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Specific work hours will be determined when a job offer is extended for this position.
