This role offers a unique opportunity to work behind the scenes, preparing new and popular titles, innovative materials, and electronic devices for our growing and diverse community in Prince William County and the City of Manassas. As part of the Physical Processing and Interlibrary Loan unit, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring our collections are ready for public use.   • Jacket and label new books, audiovisual materials, puzzles, and other materials on a weekly basis Provide a wide variety of library-related clerical tasks such as filing, copying, scanning, packing and shipping books to vendors
  • Responsible for checking for errors and quality control of all work
  • Track and maintain supplies used for processing materials and interlibrary loans
  • Organize processed materials by location to prepare them for shelving, on a daily basis
  • Complete minor repair of materials to extend the life of materials, much as mending torn pages
  • Provide interlibrary loan services to patrons as well as to universities and libraries across the country, to include resolving ILL issues, managing ILL phone messages and the ILL email inbox
  • Ensure items being received from other libraries or being loaned out are properly packaged and labeled for shipping
  • Maintain confidential information in patrons' records
Minimum Requirements: 8th grade education and six months of related experience in an administrative/clerical support role. Preferences:
  • Up to 1 year of experience with Polaris or other integrated library applications or databases such as Horizon, OCLC, First Search or Illiad
  • Experience with processing materials in a library or similar setting
  • Proficiency in using Word and Outlook.
  • Experience working in a customer service field
  • Experience working individually and as part of a team.
  • Experience working or volunteering in a library, bookstore or similar setting.
Special Requirements (if applicable): The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business. Work Schedule: This position is part-time, 20-hours, 4 days a week with a fixed schedule from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with one weekday off (Monday or Tuesday). No nights or weekends.
