Job Type Full-timeDescriptionJob Close Date: January 13, 2025 @ 9:00am PST Hiring for two, 40-hr positions Position SummaryThe Library Associate position performs front-line customer service and a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties in support of various sections or functions of the library, primarily at the Circulation or other service desk. Excellent customer service to library patrons is the core tenet of the Library Associate position.RequirementsDuties and Responsibilities
  • Provides customer service by welcoming and registering patrons, issuing library cards, checking in and out materials, and managing patron accounts.
  • Processes all incoming and returned materials in all formats performing inspection, check in, holds/requests fulfillment, status update, branch transfers, or security measures as needed and necessary for expedient delivery of materials.
  • Performs daily and/or monthly hold routines to gather, maintain, organize, update, and/or transfer materials for customer holds pickup.
  • Accepts and processes fines, fees, or other payments.
  • Assists patrons with locating materials using computers or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
  • May assist branch manager with library programming and outreach for all ages.
  • May plan, prepare, and execute storytime programs.
  • May assist and/or plan and implement programs for all ages, including for Spark Space.
  • Provides information regarding programs, events, conference rooms, etc.
  • Shelves library materials, as needed.
  • Addresses or escalates patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management.
  • Participates in needed and/or assigned business-related activities and clerical responsibilities to ensure the library building is open and operational.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
CompensationJCLS has a 16-step salary schedule with each step at 1.5%. The starting salary will be based on steps 1-5 on Grade G of the schedule. New hires are placed based on applicable education and experience to the job, as well as keeping within Oregon state pay equity laws. The starting range for this position is $19.53 to $20.75 per hour. Staff members who pass a Spanish language competency test are eligible for a Bilingual Stipend per JCLS policy.JCLS is an Equal Opportunity Employer Salary Description $19.53 - $24.47
