Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, the Library Associate supports the daily operations of the public library by providing a variety of services to library patrons. This role involves assisting with information and referral services, technology assistance, public programming, and community outreach. The Library Associate works closely with the public and library staff to ensure a welcoming and resourceful environment for all visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist library patrons with locating materials, providing information and reference services, and making appropriate referrals.

- Provide technology assistance to patrons, including help with computers, printers, library databases, and digital resources.

- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of public programming such as workshops, educational sessions, and community events.

- Participate in outreach activities to engage the community, promote library services, and foster partnerships with local organizations.

- Assist with circulation services, including checking in and out materials, processing holds, and issuing library cards.

- Maintain accurate records of daily transactions, program attendance, and patron interactions.

- Help maintain the library's collection by shelving materials, processing new items, and ensuring organization and cleanliness.

- Assist in training and supervising volunteers or junior staff members as needed.

- Handle patron inquiries and concerns with professionalism, addressing issues or escalating them to library management as necessary.

- Perform other related duties as assigned to support library operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Graduation with an Associate degree from an accredited college or university.

- At least four years of related work experience, preferably in a library or educational environment.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and use library-specific software.

- Strong customer service skills and the ability to assist a diverse range of patrons.

- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience providing information or reference services in a library setting.

- Familiarity with digital library resources and e-learning tools.

- Experience with public programming or community outreach initiatives.

Skills and Competencies:

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with the public.

- Problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

- A passion for community engagement and promoting literacy.

Working Conditions:

This position is primarily based in the public library and may require working evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays. Outreach activities may require traveling to various locations within the community.
