All applicants are subject to a background check.This position coordinates the maintenance and repairs of library facilities, grounds, and equipment. Major Duties Acts as the Library's primary point of contact with City Building Services and Landscape Services staff.Coordinates maintenance and repair of physical plant, all mechanical systems, electrical systems, and fire and security systems in main library and branch facilities.Plans daily and weekly work schedules; establishes short-term priorities and deadlines.Analyzes problems, establishes priorities, and contracts outside work.Advises management concerning the technical aspects of maintaining, replacing, or renovating equipment and facilities.Schedules, directs, supervises and inspects the work of outside contractors.Provides daily courier services between library locations.Participates in the maintenance, repair, cleaning and minor renovation of buildings, equipment and auxiliary systemsSupervises library janitorial staffInspects facilities and grounds for maintenance needs and safety hazards; serves as safety manager for library facilities; maintains preventative maintenance schedules for buildings and vehicles.Receives library supplies and stock; delivers to various departments and facilities.Maintains records of all maintenance, repair, and renovation.Maintains inventory of parts and supplies.Performs other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and Qualifications Knowledge of repair, maintenance, and construction techniques used in the building and mechanical trades.Knowledge of building codes and rules.Knowledge of library policies and procedures.Skill in the repair and maintenance of library facilities and systems.Skill in problem solving.Skill in interpersonal relations.Skill in the use of computers and other office equipment.Skill in oral and written communication. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school educationSufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship / internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Supplemental Information PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee in this position to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently/repeatedly required to stand; walk; use hands and exert forces needed to handle various types and sizes of tools, equipment and objects; reach with hands and arms and perform elevated work for periods of time; climb ladders and balance; climb into vehicles and equipment; stoop; kneel; half-kneel; squat; crouch; or crawl; and talk; or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift, push, pull and/or move more than 100 pounds. An employee in this position will have successfully passed a Functional Prework Screen administered by a professional and impartial third-party specialist. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in a library or stockroom. The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, and grease, machinery with moving parts, or irritating chemicals. Work may be performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather and may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Library Director assigns work in terms of general instructions. Work is spot-checked upon completion for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of results. GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the North Carolina Building Code, Fire Prevention Code, OSHA and ADA guidelines, and city and library policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific by may require interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related maintenance and repair duties. The number of repair requests received contributes to the complexity of the work. SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to coordinate the repair and maintenance of library facilities and grounds. Successful performance provides a safe and well-maintained environment for personnel and patrons. PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with other library employees, other city employees, vendors, contractors, and the general public. PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services.
