Certified - Position - Library-Media Grades 3-12 Job Number 230####### Start Date Open Date 04/26/2024 Closing Date JOB DESCRIPTION:The Library Media Specialist is responsible for organizing and managing collections ofjournals, books, magazines, newspapers, electronic documents, and other data resources (i.e. or organizing mini lessons, crafts and story time). The work of a library media specialist is for students, teachers and other members of the school community to ensure effective practices in the selection, use, and evaluation of materials that support and enhance the instructional program of the school. Provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and school district, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements practices and procedures established by the Principal, School Library Coordinator, or Designee.
- Plans, implements, monitor and evaluate the school library media program.
- Manages and operates the School Library Media Center.
- Provides guidance in the selection and acquisition of instructional materials in varying formats, including digital media, and levels of difficulty.
- Develops, updates and publicizes the resources, services, and circulation policy of the Library Media Center and implements measures to ensure maximum and effective use of the resources and services by students and school staff.
- Monitors the circulation of resources and compiles monthly and annual statistical and program reports.
- Assists in planning and coordinating professional learning activities to ensure professional growth of school system personnel.
- Provide leadership and guidance in the selection, use, and evaluation of new technologies to enhance instruction.
- Fluent with the online book system-Destiny, order, check out and return books.
- Facilitate reading events and programs, complete lesson plans, units of study and career fairs. Facilitate book fairs and professional development. Prepare school for large reading initiatives. Teaching reading strategies and skills to all students in rotation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate
- Master's Degree with certification in Library Media K-12 from an accredited institution
- ESSA Criteria for Highly Effective Teacher
- Experienced in the use and implementation of various instructional technologies
