Teachers & Licensed Professionals - Position - MEDIA SPECIALIST Job Number 860####### Start Date Open Date Closing Date Plans, develops, implements, and monitors a library and multi-media program in a self-contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or at school site, as assigned. Works closely with general educators to ensure continuity of services to provide a broad range of information sources including books, scores and parts, audiovisual materials, manuscripts, and electronic resources to support the curricular needs of the teachers andstudents.Essential Functions Leadership & Program Administration
- Continually assesses and maintains library-based information sources for institutional and individual reporting purposes and related to desired educational goals, objectives and outcomes.
- Responsible for the completion of all mandated and requested forms, surveys, and reports from MSDE and Baltimore City Public School. MSDE Annual Report, City Schools Document of Compliance, City Schools Monthly Report (due quarterly), Collection Development Plan, Visual Analysis, etc.
- Assigns work to and supervise instructional assistants and parent and student volunteers if applicable.
- Schedules the use of the information resource center.
- Works with parents and community to ensure ongoing communication and instructional support system.
- Ensures library is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are in good condition and assessable to students.
- Supports or participates in school wide student activities and social events and approved fundraising activities.
- Develops and leads in-service training and staff development activities as required or assigned.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.
Teacher & Instructional Partner
- Works with the staff to implement City Schools Information Literacy Content Standards, Educational Technology Standards and Skills, and Media Literacy.
- Coordinates library-based student instructional activities and collaborates with other professional staff both school and non-school-based to better integrate library/multi-media services to maximize student learning opportunities.
- Participates in in-service and staff development activities and staff meeting as required or assigned.
- Participates in professional development activities scheduled specifically for information resource teachers.
- Participates in school wide committees as required or assigned.
- Ensures continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress on educational goals and outcomes.
- Manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
- Develops, adapts, modifies, and individualizes educational materials, resources, techniques, methods, and strategies to meet the needs of students within City Schools' curriculum framework.
- Demonstrates competence in the subject fields pertinent to the instruction of students.
- Demonstrates the use of both traditional and innovative instructional methodologies in working with various sub-groups within the populations of students.
- Participates in in-service training, staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
Technology & Information Partner
- Utilizes a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning, e.g., application programs, access data in a variety formats.
- Supports teachers in their use of technology in order to increase understanding and application of information literacy in all curricula areas.
- Coordinates professional development activities directly related to the use of technology.
- Models for staff effective instructional and productivity uses of technology.
- Team teaches with classroom teachers when appropriate to integrate information literacy with instruction.
- May serve on school technology committee to advice school leadership on best practices and procurement of technology.
Maximum Salary 102087.00 Minimum Salary 58895.00 Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree preferably in library sciences, education, or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
- Eligible for a Maryland Educator certificate as Library Media Specialist.
- Participants in a Maryland State approved resident teacher or alternative teacher certification program may also be considered with the requirement that they must meet Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for library media specialist by the completion of the program.
- Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty to which assigned.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Knowledge of school's program of studies related to assignments and mission, goals, and organization.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
- Excellent human relations skills.
- Ability to select instructional planning, management, and evaluation procedures that relate to students needs and the demands of the instructional environment.
- Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
- Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents.
