Schwarzman BuildingReporting To: Maddie EmileCompensation: $16.00 / hourDescriptionOverviewThe Office of the General Counsel Page position is meant to provide experience and knowledge about working at an in-house legal department. At NYPL, the Office of the General Counsel is involved in many aspects of the Library's operations and programs. The staff therefore gains insight into a wealth of knowledge about our noble non-profit institution. We are looking for candidates that demonstrate a strong work ethic, are reliable and possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.You will have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship.The Legal Page position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, between 9 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Thursday. Schedules are variable based on library needs and student school schedules, and may be subject to change.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Legal Department Page is responsible for a variety of administrative tasks that support the Legal team, including:
  • Working on-site at our department office
  • Filing, scanning, copying and/or mailing important documents
  • Assisting with organization and maintenance of both electronic and hardcopy filing systems
  • Operating printer and scanner to create PDF scans of various materials
  • Sorting mail and other deliveries received through interoffice delivery
  • Assisting in scheduling meetings and calls
  • Running errands as needed
  • Assisting with special projects
  • Performing other related tasks as needed
Required Education, Experience & SkillsRequired Education and Certifications
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited school
  • Interest or curiosity in pursuing a career in the Legal field
Required Experience and Skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow detailed instruction
  • Ability to work diligently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic computer and technology skills such as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment
  • Demonstrated flexibility, reliability, punctuality, professionalism, and attention to detail
