Catalogs library materials for multiple collections and enters data into the Integrated Library System (ILS). Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adds or modifies bibliographic data and information in database
- Creates new, descriptive catalog records
- Creates records applying standards and assigns call numbers using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system
- Codes, classifies, and catalogs books, publications, films, audiovisual aids, and other library materials based on subject matter or standard library classification systems.
- Determines and assigns proper classification and call numbers to library materials, prepares items with barcodes and property stamps, and adds information to ILS
- Maintains current collections: mends, repairs, restores materials, and updates information in ILS
- Coordinates with other departments to withdraw old / outdated / worn materials; delete records, etc.
- Inventories collections as directed and runs reports on lost / missing items; updates collections and database and makes necessary corrections
- Weeds and withdraws materials as needed
- Follows the city policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Two years of library experience
- Ability to type a minimum of 30 wpm
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related field
- One year of experience as a cataloger in a public library
