Licensed Practical Nurse Appearance: To wear appropriate uniforms that are clean and neat to include white pants and white shoes. Must observe good personal hygiene with minimum perfume. Duties:
- Perform professional nursing care within the LPN scope of practice to patients as assigned by the nurse supervisor and in accordance with hospital policies and outlined procedures.
- Bedside patient care as assigned by the RN to include bathing, ADL's, repositioning, nutritional needs, elimination needs, etc.
- Prepare equipment and assist the doctor during treatment and examination of patients
- Administers prescribed medications -oral and injectable.
- Observes patient reactions to medications and treatments.
- Observes, records and reports to RN as indicated by patients' condition and/or reaction to medical regime of care.
- Maintains accurate and thorough precise patient records.
- Delegates tasks to aides when appropriate.
- Supervises patient care activities, in conjunction with the RN and nonprofessional personnel.
- Assists RN with coordination of patient care activities, etc., lab, xray., etc to maintain a team concept.
- Transcribes doctor's orders according to hospital policies.
- Handles staff and/or patient-family problems with appropriateness.
- Shows respect and dignity as well as confidentiality at all times.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
- Provide respiratory therapy as prescribed by doctors.
- Assist lab with EKG's
- Discharge teaching.
- IV therapy for the LPNC
- Restocking of supplies and checking outdates as needed and/or as assigned.
- May be assigned to any unit in the hospital according to need, experience and educational background. Will work weekends and may be required to rotate shifts personnel.. May be called in an emergency. Will participate in staff peer evals.
- Attends inservice and nursing staff meetings as scheduled. Follows chain of command. directly responsible to RN on duty.
Education, Training, and Experience: Graduate of recognized 1 year practical nurse program; current NE licensure to practice as LPN, Current CPR cert, no exp. required other than that obtained in school 12-hour night or day shifts, 36 hours per week and every third weekend.
