Job Description:

Described Duties:

1. Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers, supervisors, and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS according to governing body requirements and established internal policies and procedures.

2. Treat others respectfully whether it is a patient, fellow employee, member of management, customer, vendor or visitor to our premises.

3. Places patients in exam rooms and records vital signs, past medical history, brief history of the present illness, blood pressure, weight, completes problem list, and prepares patient for provider to see.

4. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.

5. Assists patients to ambulate, assists patients onto/off of exam tables, and in and out of wheel chairs.

6. Assists providers in distribution of appropriate patient education materials, and communicates information to the patient in a tactful and professional manner.

7. Prepares exam rooms and required instruments/equipment for procedures and treatments, and restocks rooms after vacating patients as necessary. Ensures all instruments are clean and sterilized.

8. Triages patient calls in a pleasant and timely manner and makes follow up calls as required by provider staff.

9. Administers injections.

10. Prepares patient record information for provider referrals and communicates significant information to other health care providers/entities as required.

11. Draws labs as required.

12. Prepares all lab specimens for shipment, as requested (Pap Smears, biopsy, cultures, etc.).

13. Assists physician with procedures and properly maintain equipment before and after procedures.

14. Answers patient and hospital phone calls as advised by physician. Assesses patient telephone calls, walk-in patients, etc.

15. Reviews charts for completeness for daily appointments. Documents all refills, telephone conversations, and patient office visits in the electronic patient medical record.

16. Determines needs for medical supplies, including oxygen, and non-narcotic injectable, prepares a list as specified in NHS policy for ordering by a designated person.

17. Maintains tracking log for all lab, x-ray, and referrals.

18. Attends and actively participates in clinical staff meetings, in-services, and educational programs.

19. Documents all assessments, treatments, procedures and medications in medical record, electronic or paper during times of system downtime procedures.

20. Complies with all Regulatory agencies, directives, standards and regulations. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

21. Complies with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Possess cognitive skills necessary to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral or written form.

2. Must demonstrate tact patience and good communication skills in dealing with patients, co-workers and the public.

3. Must respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.

4. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

5. Must be able to perform job requirements in high demand situations.

6. Must be able to talk, see, hear, write, stand, walk, and kneel.

7. Possess cognitive skills necessary to understanding medical terminology, instructions, medical records, and identifying problems and offering solutions.

8. Must comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

9. Follow established procedures for answering and screening incoming appointment-related telephone calls, scheduling interpreters, and directing calls to appropriate staff.

10. Ability to move/lift patients in wheelchairs to exam tables, to push/pull equipment, walking, standing, crouching, stooping, and bending. Must safely move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

1. Graduate from accredited school, with L.P.N. licensure in the state of Missouri.

2. BLS certification required.

3. Two years acute care nursing or two years office nursing experience preferred.

4. Possess light typing skills, computer knowledge required. Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency.

5. Must possess ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, and other individuals encountered in the course of employment.

6. Ability to visually assess patient condition and communicate with the patients and families with tact and professionalism.

7. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License, and proof of insurance for personal vehicle used for business.
