Job Description:
Our correctional center (Yaphank) is currently seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team. The Licensed Practical Nurse will be primarily be responsible for administering medication and attending to the medical needs of inmates. This LPN position will be included in the Medication Assistance Treatment Program. There will also be opportunities to work with inmates on a one-on-one basis as well as participate in community outreach programs. The successful candidate will support the goals of our correctional center, which is to bring safety and security to both inmates and staff by maintaining positive relationships with the public.Yaphank Shift:3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday (Days Off Sunday- Monday)Key Elements Of The Role:Patient data entry into the MAT Spreadsheet and calendar Administering all MAT Related medications/injections: (Subclade, Vivitrol) Document all MAT related information, in particular medication administration on the Mars, Nextgen and any related log booklet. Assists physicians or physician's assistant while performing exams for inmates; Assists inmates with personal care needs as required; Assists with medical procedures and treatments such as taking and recording vital signs; Performs technical procedures such as EKG, visual acuity testing, GC culture smears (Gonorrhea test), PPDs (skin test-tuberculosis); Performs venipunctures and takes blood samples; Assists in making daily reports and keeping adequate inventory records of medication and medical supplies; May administer medication to inmates as established through a protocol and under the direction of a physician or physician's assistant; May assist in the administration of first aid in emergency situations; May perform clerical duties including the filing of medical records.*This position does not offer relocation assistance at this time**Sponsorship is not available for this roleYaphank Shift:3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Tuesday through Saturday (Days Off Sunday- Monday)Salary: $45,361.80 +10% Night Differential Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a license or a limited permit issued by the State of New York to practice as a practical nurse.Necessary Special Requirements: Candidate must possess or, for those with limited permits obtain, within one year, a current registration issued by the State of New York to practice as practical nurse, and must maintain a valid registration throughout employment in this title.Depending upon assignment, candidate may be required at the time of appointment and during employment in this title, to possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.Benefits: Full Medical for member and qualifying dependents through Suffolk County Employee Medical Health Plan: Employee contribution: 2.4% of base salary (or a minimum of $1,500 per year)Tuition reimbursement available for work (approval based) related continued education. Flexible Spending Account (employee contribution) is available for Dependent Care $5,000 Maximum and Health Expenses $2,850 Maximum 13 Calendar year holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. -Vacation Time: During the first year, employees are entitled to 10 Vacation days, earned at the rate of 2.75 per pay period totaling 10 days annually. Employees continue to earn vacation days in accordance with the schedule, reaching a maximum of 30 days per year. Unused vacation time rolls over each year until a maximum of 420 hours. Sick Time: Earned at the rate of 1/2 day per pay period totaling 13 days annually. Unused sick time rolls over each year, with no maximum rollover. Personal Leave: An employee granted 4 days of personnel leave each year. Employees receive 7.5 hours on their 1st day and will accrue one additional day every quarter. After employee firstanniversary, 28 hours of personal days will be frontloaded at the beginning of each year worked. Unused personal time rolls over into sick each year with no maximum rollover. Salary: Step increase every 12 months on July 1 completed year of service in addition to contractual raises through 2024. Membership in the New York State Retirement Pension System 5 year vested. In order to retire with Health benefits you need to work 10 continuous years with the county and be 55.Suffolk County Municipal Employees Benefit Fund.
