Job Description:
The lifeguard, under general supervision, ensures the safety of guests at the Waterpark by preventing and responding to emergencies. Ensures that they are performing all job duties in compliance with all rules and regulations and that all company expectations are supported. Maintains constant surveillance of guests in the facility.Acts at once and appropriately to secure the safety of guests in case of an emergency.Provides emergency care and treatment as needed until the arrival of emergency medical services.Always presents a professional appearance and attitude and keeps a high standard of guest service.Performs various maintenance duties as directed to keep a clean and safe environment.Prepares and keeps proper activity reports.Performs other duties as assigned by management.REGULATORY COMPLIANCEMonitors all relevant activities of the department, to ensure that all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and controls of the organization are understood and enforced by departmental personnel.Performs all duties per company team member handbook, objectives of the Otoe Missouria Tribe, internal policies, procedures, and controls, as well as applicable laws.Maintains the Departmental Shift log(s) reviewing and noting any unusual occurrences, incidents, equipment failures, safety issues, disputes, etc. Judgment/Decision MakingForms opinions and makes decisions based on information and the identification of available facts. Makes decisions or draws conclusions using available data and from experience. Avoid situations that could be considered illegal or represent a safety hazard to fellow team members or guests.CommunicationsMakes effort to keep informed of company information and communications by reviewing property bulletin boards, departmental log/shift reports, departmental/company emails, signage and company newsletter. QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability needed. Individuals must be at least 16 years of age.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEPrefer 6 months to 1 year experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified. CPR Certified, Current certification as a lifeguard by a recognized source of training.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESMust be punctual and dependable in reporting to work as scheduled and completing assigned tasks.Must be able to work both indoors and out and be exposed to prevalent weather.Must keep lifeguard certification level of physical and mental readiness.Must be able to visually see all sections and assigned zone or area of responsibility.Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals.Must have the ability to still be alert and keep concentration for extended periods of time to ensure the safety of guests.Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision.Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.Read, write and speak the English language. Read professional publications, memos, emails, logs, newsletters and documents.Protect the Company's value by keeping information confidential.Perform assigned tasks under supervision. Follow written and verbal instructions.Establish and keep positive relationships with executive level management, other managerial and supervisory staff, and other Team Members. Work well alone or within a team.Present facts and recommendations in oral and written form. Prepare written reports and correspondence to upper management as needed.Exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job duties and responsibilities.Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays.Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniquesAbility to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical proceduresEMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION, WORK CARDSMust be able to provide the following cards or work authorization documents: All documents needed to show the incumbent is eligible to work in the United States. Required to pass a drug test. It is the responsibility of the Team Member to always have all proper document(s) current and valid.Valid Documentation needed for I-9First Aid, CPR, and AED CertificationsValid Lifeguard CertificationPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of the job, the Team Member must regularly talk or listen. The Team Member must also regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs. Swim 50 yards in 4 ft. water and retrieve 10 lbs. from bottom of water. The Team Member must occasionally reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The Team Member must be able to lift at least 20 lbs. and push, pull or drag up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Team Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Team Member must be able to work in a humid, warm and chlorinated environment and be immersed in water for extended periods of time. The Team Member is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particulates, including second-hand environmental smoke. The noise level in the work environment is mostly loud. The Team Member may be exposed to heat and cold and all-weather conditions depending on department area. The Team Member may rarely be exposed to the risks associated in trying to resolve issues with irate or difficult people.
