Job Description:

Job Title Lifeguard (Temporary Employee Pool) Primary Purpose To maintain the safety of all patrons at the Chris Kjeldsen Memorial Pool. As a lifeguard, your primary responsibility is the safety and education of guests in, on, and around the water. Lifeguards will enforce all rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; perform water rescues and administer first aid; maintain recreational grounds, buildings, areas, and equipment; resolve complaints; provide excellent customer service, and perform related work as required.

Lifeguards enforce all facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, perform water rescues and administer first aid, resolve complaints, provide excellent customer service, maintain facility grounds, buildings, areas, and equipment, and perform related work as required. Specific duties include:

1. Performing rescues and rendering follow-up care at a level consistent with their level of training. 2. Maintaining a high level of physical and mental fitness by active participation in regular conditioning and training exercises. 3. Directing their attention to all persons in their assigned area of responsibility. 4. Understanding the rules and regulations applicable to University of the Pacific facilities and enforcing the same among all users. 5. Helping to prevent accidents through visual inspections of the facility to detect hazards and enforcing safety rules and regulations. 6. Completing all required records and reports in a neat and timely manner. 7. Reporting to work on time, in uniform, and prepared for duty at the start of your shift. 8. Assisting in maintaining a clean work environment. 9. Maintaining all equipment in a safe and usable condition and documenting those instances where equipment has been damaged or is in need of repair. 10. Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor by wearing only the required lifeguard uniform. 11. Helping to ensure that each patron has the maximum opportunity to safely enjoy the facility. 12. Remaining at their assigned post until properly relieved. 13. Representing the University of the Pacific in a professional manner. 14. Performing other duties as assigned. Lifeguards have many secondary responsibilities. At no time should any secondary duties interfere with or intrude upon a lifeguards primary duty of patron surveillance. Secondary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1. Preparing for special events. 2. Assisting in trash collection. Minimum Qualifications

* University of the Pacific lifeguards must be at least 15 years of age.

* Current certification in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR /AED for the Professional.

Preferred Qualifications

* American Red Cross Lifeguard American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (will provide training if not yet obtained prior to start date.)

* Prior experience lifeguarding.

* Former aquatics athletes are encouraged to apply.

Must be in good physical health. Must be able and willing to lift 50 lbs. Must have good customer service skills. Must be able to stand/remain at post for long periods of time. Must be able and willing to work outdoors.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:

Must be willing to work odd hours, nights and weekends.
