Summary: To assist the Head Chef in operating a clean, sanitary and orderly kitchen to provide meals in Citizen Cider's Cider Pub. Essential functions: Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices. Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, and grills. Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, and rotating stock. Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking. Season and cook food according to recipes or personal judgment and experience. Bake, roast, broil, fry, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods. Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment. Portion, arrange, and garnish food, and provide food to server/bartender or patrons. Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils. Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption. Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods. Keep records and accounts. Supervisory responsibilities: None Requirements Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of and ability to prepare, cook, and serve nutritious meals. Knowledge of proper nutrition, sanitation and safety laws and standards. Physical demands: Ability to continuously stand or walk. Ability to bend, climb stairs and lift frequently. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently. Ability to squat occasionally. Work environment: Work will be conducted in a kitchen environment. May encounter temperatures ranging from 32 degrees to 425 degrees around equipment. May occasionally walk on slippery surfaces. Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.
