Hourly Rate: $20.48Job Summary:This position's primary function is to safely and efficiently secure and remove a ship's dock lines at the Port Canaveral. The employee will be expected to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time in allweather conditions. This position is also responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Port's commercial cruise and cargo docks. This position reports to the Harbormaster Office. This position will require the employee to work weekends, nights, and holidays. This position will require the employee to be on rotation for afterhours line handling. Candidate must successfully complete the Port's line handling training within the 90-day training period. Essential Functions:
- Catches and throws heaving lines from ship's docking
- Pulls mooring lines down the dock and secures to bollards
- Removes mooring lines from bollards
- Drives line handling vehicle
- Maintains/repairs mooring operations equipment
- Responsible for cleaning the docks and piers with the use power washer for extended periods of time
- Assists Harbormaster in ensuring vessel safety alongside Port docks
- Ensures compliance with company procedures, EPA, OSHA and other federal, state, and local regulations
- Performs dock inspections prior to vessel arrival and after vessel departure
- Monitors dockside vessel operations as requested by the Harbormaster office
- Completes periodic dockside safety inspections
- Performs potable water hook-ups for vessels as needed
- Performs weekly water meter readings as needed
- Performs bucket maintenance duties (splicing, rinsing lines)
- Provides landside transportation of Harbor Pilots
- Ability to operate boom lifts and sweeper truck
- Responsible for cleaning in and around parking garages, parking areas at terminals, and grounds at cruise terminals
- Cleaning of gangway windows and terminal gangway windows
- Restoration and painting of mooring bollards
- Must be able to use power and pneumatic tools for rust removal
- Pressure wash sidewalks and bus loops at cruise terminals
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- During emergency conditions, all CPA employees are automatically considered essential employees and may be subject to recall. These events may include, but are not limited to, natural, man-made, or public health emergencies. Employees may be expected to perform emergency and/or recovery operations outside of their normal assigned responsibilities and routine working hours.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Must be able to successfully complete the Port's line handling training within 90-day training period
- Must be willing to work a variety of shifts including weekends, nights, and holidays
- Be able to follow verbal and written instructions
- Must be able to perform basic math
- Must have knowledge of computers
- Must be 18 years old
- Must have experience using power tools
- Must have painting knowledge
Licenses / Certification Required:
- Possess a valid Florida Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.
- Able to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Physical Requirement:
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical
- This is a safety sensitive position
- Must be able to work in all types of weather
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Physically able to stand for a long period of time
Environmental Requirements:
- Outside for 10-12 hours shifts
