Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- Generate story ideas through research of social media, news wires, websites and contacts
- Identify impactful news stories that result in provocative, compelling television
- Delegate responsibilities as appropriate to associate producers, assignment editors and video editors
- Produce timely content under heavy deadline pressure
- Keep current of local events and politics
- Attend editorial meetings
- Excel in a highly competitive, deadline-driven environment
- Possess strong writing skills, including ability to master tease writing
- Use sound editorial judgement and attention to detail to ensure standards
- Interact with viewers and users on social media sites
- Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, overnights, and weekends
- Perform other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, business, or a related field, preferred
- Strong writing and organizational skills required as is the ability to produce content under heavy deadline pressure.
- 3 years' experience line producing a newscast
- Attention to detail is must.
- Ability to collect and analyze data and information accuracy as well as follow through.
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
- Proactive and solutions focused.
- Professional appearance.
Additional Weekend Requirements:
- Must be able to work Wednesday to Sunday
- Live within reasonable distance and have dependable means of transportation due to early hours on Saturday and Sunday
- Saturday hours are 5:30am~3:30pm
- Sunday hours are 5:30am~2:30pm
- Must be able to multi-task and have good time management skills
- 5 shows across 10 hours requires swift and smooth transitions between shows
- We produce Sunday shows on Saturday so candidates should be able to manage their time to make sure they are working ahead at all times
- Must have reasonable knowledge of the news cycle
- We are covering the stories of the week, so you should not be seeing these stories for the first time when you start working on your segment
- Candidates should also be keeping an eye out throughout the week for new angles/elements to keep stories fresh, even if they have completed their work on a segment
