The Johnston County Airport Authority is seeking a part-time Line Service Technician for the airport (JNX). JNX is owned and operated by the Johnston County Airport Authority and serves corporate, military, and general aviation aircraft. This position will primarily work on Wednesdays.
Johnston Regional Airport (JNX) serves the greater Raleigh metropolitan area and provides the most convenient location for the Triangle region. The airport is home to the Johnston County Economic Development department, aviation-related businesses, Duke Life Flight, and several corporate aircraft and recreational aviators.
* The Line Service Technician performs a variety of tasks involving semi-skilled and skilled manual work in refueling of airplanes, marshalling and towing aircraft, maintenance and minor repair of airport facilities and systems.
* Work includes operating two-way radio equipment to provide advisory information to aircraft.
* Airport systems maintenance includes work on runways, taxiways, lights and wind socks. Also includes inspection of all airfield facilities, and relay maintenance needs to the maintenance department.
* Building maintenance includes general custodial tasks in mopping, vacuuming and cleaning bathrooms.
* Grounds work involves mowing grass using push and riding mowers, cutting weeds with a weed-eater, and cleaning up leaves and trash.
* Employees must abide by FAA regulations, OSHA safety rules and regulations, and exercise significant care and accuracy in handling airplane fuel.
* Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards associated with maintenance work, fumes, chemicals, mists, gases and oils.
* Duties may also expose the employees to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to the OSHA requirements on bloodborne pathogens.
* Work is assigned daily, is supervised by the Airport Director, and is reviewed by observation for quality and quantity of work completed and timeliness of completion.

* Performs maintenance to airport systems; checks tower and runway lights to assure correct position and direction, as well as burning properly; replaces bulbs and adjusts position; checks power source to see if fuses and breakers are working; changes wind sockets; checks weather observation system.
* Checks and cleans runways and taxiways daily; looks for foreign objects, bolts, dead objects, vandalism, etc.
* Operates two way radio; monitors frequency for aircraft landing calls; gives wind speed, advises which runway to use for landing and take-off.
* Receives and transfers aircraft fuel from supply tanker; opens and secures gate to fuel storage area, opens and closes lines and turns pump on and off; checks for moisture following standard procedures; refuels aircraft with aviation or jet fuel which involves verifying type of airplane and appropriate fuel source to avoid costly damage to aircraft.
* Performs maintenance on trucks and mowers; daily checks pumps, oil, air filters, tires, valve covers for leaking, and loose belts; and fills with gas; tightens mower blades; and cleans vehicles.
* Operates power equipment such as lawn mowers, edgers, weed trimmers and blowers to cut grass and maintain grounds.
* Supervises community service workers in daily grounds maintenance work, as they are available; assigns tasks and demonstrates how to perform appropriately; assures work is completed correctly.
* Performs general maintenance in the airport; sweeps, mops, vacuums, cleans bathrooms including scrubbing toilets and sinks; wiping walls; and polishing mirrors.
* Keeps accurate records on refueling covering the aircraft number, owner, and gallons of fuel; fills out invoice and files.
* Considerable knowledge of methods, materials and equipment related to airport systems and the various instruments related to proficient airport operation.
* Working knowledge of FAA regulations related to duties.
* Working knowledge of aircraft, types of fuel, and refueling techniques.
* Working knowledge of equipment, tools, and procedures required in performance of duties.
* Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; and to provide documentation required by FAA regulations.
* Ability to operate varied equipment required in performance of duties.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with airport customers, other employees, superiors, and the general public.
* Ability to read and write and some related airport experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* This is an entry-level position but FBO or Line Service experience is preferred.
