The employee frames and sets utility poles, removes trees at work sites and right-of-way (ROW), applies hot line tags and does switching operations when required, trains new employees, trouble shoots system when needed, installs, and maintains traffic lights, builds capacitor and switch banks, performs building maintenance at electric shop, performs traffic control tasks (flagging) and conducts job safety briefings (JSBs) at work sites. The employee repairs and maintains electric substations, operates heavy equipment (boom truck, bucket truck, digger derrick, backhoe, loader). This employee installs transformers and pulls and splices electric wires. The employee handles hazardous materials and works around high voltage electric power sources. This employee responds to standby service calls and requires weekend and after hours on-call work. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screens.This position is considered an on-call position. Residence within the police jurisdiction is required for positions that require on-call status. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Electric Line Service. Performs a variety of electric line and related service tasks within service area.
Frames and sets electric utility poles.Installs and maintains overhead and underground electric system components. Removes trees from line ROW.Maintains and repairs electric substations.Installs transformers, framing poles; pulls and splices wire and cable.Builds capacitor and switch banks.Builds primary and secondary risers.Applies hot line tags and performs switching operations when required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Equipment Operation. Operates a variety of heavy equipment utilized in electric line installation and maintenance.
Operates boom truck, bucket truck, digger derrick, backhoe, loader, and other equipment associated with line installation and repair.Monitors all equipment for repair and maintenance needs; reports needs to Operations Director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Work Site Safety. Performs a variety of work site safety tasks.
Conducts job site safety briefings at work sites.Performs traffic control operations such as flagging at work sites.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Trains New Hires. Conducts orientation and training for new Groundmen and Apprentices.
Orients other Department employees, in coordination with the Electric Superintendent, to Electric Department and electric line installation and maintenance functions.Trains Department employees in the performance of their primary tasks and work duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Customer Relations. Responds to customer questions or complaints in a professional manner.
Responds to work site customer questions or complaints in a courteous and professional manner.Refers customers to appropriate staff for questions that cannot be addressed. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Possess a high school diploma or GED.Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience as electric lineman.Successfully complete three (3) year lineman apprenticeship program and Advanced Lineman Meter class.Possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to obtain this license within six (6) months of employment; must be insurable.Ability to work non-standard hours.Ability to travel to attend professional development training programs and to respond to mutual aid requests.Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.
