Lithium Ion Battery Quality Assurance EngineerWaukesha, WI$135,000 to $170,000 + Bonus + Full Benefits + Paid Relocation + SIGNING BONUSJob DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Quality Assurance Engineer specializing in Lithium Ion Batteries to join our Energy Technology business group. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality, safety, and performance of our company's battery technology. As a Quality Assurance Engineer for Lithium Ion Batteries, your responsibilities will include conducting risk assessments and DfR initiatives for Li-ion battery powered products, overseeing the execution of demonstration tests, analyzing test data, identifying root causes of failures, and implementing strategies to enhance battery quality.This position will report to the Engineering Director or Supervisor. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Create a framework for defining reliability assessment at the cell, module, and system level for various technology products that utilize Li-ion cells like Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and IoT devices. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as product design engineers, to establish battery performance and reliability metrics.Develop a comprehensive understanding of different battery chemistries and technologies and their applicability to various use cases, focusing on reliability and field performance.Gain in-depth knowledge of the operating environment and performance requirements for Li-ion battery applications in different products.Utilize statistical analysis expertise to identify performance trends and leverage predictive models and demonstrations to improve reliability.Ensure validation excellence by closely monitoring the design verification and validation plans of team members, providing assistance, and escalating concerns to leadership. Maintain accurate and detailed records of battery performance and reliability data.Contribute to Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEAs, and Design Reviews.Investigate battery failure modes and identify root causes, recommending appropriate corrective actions.Devise and implement strategies to enhance battery reliability, including improvements in manufacturing processes and the selection of batteries with improved longevity, capacity, and efficiency.Manage third-party resources (external labs, consultants, etc.) to complete assigned work packages, including scope management, statement of work development, commercial agreements, and Engineering+- reports.Support product development plans, including schedule, cost, and meeting design inputs.Mentor and train less experienced engineers.Perform other assigned duties.Minimum Qualifications:Master's Degree in Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.A minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience in battery reliability engineering, preferably in the automotive or energy storage industry.Demonstrated success in developing and implementing battery reliability programs.Additional Skills Preferred:PhD in Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.Certification in Reliability Engineering. Experience in developing and/or validating power electronic products.Experience with renewable energy products.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Strong knowledge of battery safety, cell chemistry, and environmental factors that impact battery performance.Understanding of reliability failure modes in technologies involving power electronics and their impact on reliability.Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and methods for analyzing performance data trends.Good understanding of relevant test standards (IEEE, JEDEC, IEC, etc.).Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects with competing priorities.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.Strong decision-making skills.IDEAL CANDIDATESExperience with common failure modes of Li-ion batteries in outdoor applicationsInvolvement in accelerated test failures through reliability demonstration tests
