Position Type: Early Childhood/Pre-SchoolDate Posted: 7/24/2024Location: Delaware Early Childhood CenterDate Available: ASAPDistrict: Lake Forest School DistrictPROGRAM: Little Spartans Early Childhood Program TITLE: Assistant Early Childhood Educator REPORTS TO: Administrator of DECC Programs POSITION OVERVIEW: Assists the Early Childhood Educators in managing a classroom program for toddlers/preschoolers that engages them in learning that is designed to each child's individual interests and abilities. Assists the Early Childhood Educators in record keeping, observations, assessments and screenings of enrolled children. Develops relationships with children's families to support ongoing communication and involvement. Works as a member of the team.   • High School Diploma
  • Must have completed six (6) college credit hours in Early Childhood Education. OR
  • Must have completed the TECE 1 and TECE 2 000curriculum from DIEEC.
  • Six months experience in child care work.
  • Must have a clear record with Criminal Background check and Child Abuse Registry with no pending concerns.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the Early Childhood Educator in implementing individualized lesson plans.
    • Participates in the weekly activity plan and program activities consistent with Education Plan. Assists the Early Childhood Educator in engaging children in learning activities.
    • Communicates positively with staff, parents and children who participate in the program.
    • Assists with enrichment projects through planned field trips, and class projects that are developmentally appropriate.
    • Assists with playground supervision.
    • Assists with custodial duties of the classroom including serving and cleaning up food, and the daily facility check.
    • Assumes responsibilities for the classroom with the substitute in the Early Childhood Educator's absence.
    2. Participates as a member of the team.
    • Actively participates in staff meetings, parent meetings, in-service training, and other
    opportunities.
    • Works with team members to evaluate and assess program on an on-going basis both formally and informally.
    • Maintains open communication with all members of the team.
    • Is responsive to suggestions from the team.
    • Shares responsibility in meeting the classroom and children's daily needs through constant supervision, personal care routines, and room setup and cleanup.
    • Assists with providing support for parent meetings, workshops, and other opportunities.
    3. Communicates appropriately with parents, co-workers, and other involved agencies.
    • Assists in maintaining communication logs.
    • Presents information in a professional manner.
    • Discusses appropriate referrals for children and/or family with Early Childhood Educator and participates in team discussion to share observations
    • Treats co-workers and families with respect.
    4. Contributes to effective program practices and maintains a commitment to professionalism.
    • Participates in training (pre and ongoing), workshops, conferences as required by OCCL and individual supervisory sessions with Coordinator.
    • Participates in the development and implementation of a Professional Development Plan to enhance professional growth.
    • Contributes to and participate in strategic planning, program self-assessment, and other efforts to improve program services and agency responsiveness to families.
    • Reports all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect after discussing with Early Childhood Educator.
    • Adheres to the Lake Forest School District personnel policies.
    • Maintains professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Respects and responds competently to the culture, traditions, lifestyles, language, and
  • values of each family and community.
    • Is knowledgeable about and sensitive to each family's values, beliefs, traditions,
    cultural influences, makeup and circumstances.
    • Works with staff to provide a program that ensures sensitivity and develops partnerships with families.
  • Assists the Early Childhood Educator in record keeping, observations, assessments and screenings of enrolled children.
  • In the event of a leave of absence, vacancy or termination of an Educator for 30 days or more, the assistant educator will fulfill the following duties while the educator is out:
    • Lesson planning
    • Daily / weekly communication with families, staff members and management team
    • Scheduling of home visits and conferences with the assistance of the management team
    • Data entry for child assessments, behavioral observations, and referrals for special needs
    • Health checks and daily classroom routines
  • Related duties as assigned.

    • First Aid and CPR
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Must pass physical and TB test. Must have ability to complete basic paperwork, solve problems, communicate effectively, engage in occasional light lifting of up to 50 pounds, pushing, carrying and pulling tasks. Must be able to move and play with small children indoors and outdoors. SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Assistant Early Childhood Educator is a part-time hourly position, up to 29 hours per week. The Assistant Early Childhood Educator shall be employed up to ten months per year. BENEFITS: Part-time employees (up to 29 hours per week) are eligible for Vision and Dental for State of Delaware Employees. EVALUATION: The Assistant Early Childhood Educator shall be evaluated annually by the Administrator of DECC Programs according to policies approved by the Lake Forest Board of Education.
