Position Summary The Loading Dock Lead at the Seattle Convention Center is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the loading dock, including oversight of other Transportation Attendant staff to monitor access and traffic during event load-in and -out. They will play a pivotal event support role by managing the logistics of all goods coming to the Convention Center and ensuring the safe distribution of delivered items to the appropriate staff. By providing quality service support, this position will be responsible for facilitating the shipment of outbound goods related to events and/or items returned on behalf of the SCC and operating the freight elevator to expedite the delivery of goods to secure storage areas. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Event Control Manager, Event Control Manager, and the Director of Event Services, maintain order, cleanliness and ensure the safe and professional environment of the loading docks.
  • With proper certification, operate electrically or fuel motorized equipment to include, but not be limited to non-self-propelled and self-propelled, pallet jacks, forklifts, and mechanical lifts.
  • Perform all assignments with an attention to the safe operation of equipment and the use of supplies, especially as it relates to the safety of self and others working within the area.
  • Receive materials/supplies from vendors, clients, and sub-contractors, complete documentation and ensure materials are distributed to persons who have completed the proper requisition forms.
  • Arrange storage of event items cleared by management for temporary storage, delivery, or pickup by charities.
  • Coordinate with Service partners and all event related deliveries.
  • Coordinate with show decorators and SCC Event Managers to ensure event materials (including pallets) are removed from the facility at the end of each event.
  • Exercise proper storage and care of the facility's tools and equipment by maintaining a daily log of entries and promptly reporting any damage or maintenance needed according to procedures.
  • Immediately report any accidents/incidents to a supervisor, or in their absence, Security Control and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • When appropriate, control access of delivery/contractor vehicles and monitor designated areas for hand-carried freight/small vehicle delivery. Direct drivers to the proper location and assist when needed.
  • Maintain and store vehicle completed log sheets. Post hours of operation for Hand Carried Freight systems for each event.
  • In the absence of Transportation Attendants, monitor and control vehicular traffic flow of authorized vehicles in the loading dock and deck areas. Provide handcarts when requested.
  • Work irregular schedules, if required to accommodate and direct event-related deliveries to appropriate locations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the facility areas and provide assistance to questions about daily event activities in the Convention Center and nearby public facilities. Act upon concerns and/or complaints from guests.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all performing duties and respond to multiple and sometimes pressure situations in an efficient, calm manner, using sound judgment, in all situations.
  • Properly perform all project assignments directed by management in accordance with the Quality Service Program to ensure successful compliance with the company's standards, procedures, and established programs.
  • This position may be responsible for supervisory duties for full time, part time, on-call, and temporary staff.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to; moving objects such as forklifts; fumes; outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee must be able to work shifts that may be during the day, night, weekdays, weekends and/or holidays. Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 1 year experience in shipping/receiving, loading dock or warehouse operations, or similar.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within 6 months of employment
  • Power Industrial Truck (PIT) certification as provided by SCC
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1040 hours worked as a Transportation Attendant at SCC
  • Familiarity with Momentus event management system and reports.
