Duties

* Work supervised and performed includes that involving operating of lock and dam equipment and, as time permits, routine/preventative maintenance work required for the upkeep of lock, dam, and other site buildings, grounds, and equipment.

* Track and report progress of work assignments.

* Recommend changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary.

* Assign work to individual employees involved in the performance of lock and dam operations and a variety of maintenance activities required to maintain lock and dam equipment, buildings, and grounds.

* Inspect completed work for quality and work order/assignment requirements.

* Provide technical direction and assist in accomplishing difficult, new, or substantially changed work steps, processes, methods, procedures and operational sequences.

* This position requires IMTS certification within one year of appointment.

* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

* Position may be subject to a one year supervisory probationary period.

* This position has been designated Mission Essential . In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work.

* Incumbent may be required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing and/or wear prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.

* Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.

* The position meets the criteria for random drug testing under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.

* Subject to both planned and unscheduled overtime.

* This position requires heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.

* This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

* This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Lock and Dam Operator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks including managing a team and ensuring tasks are completed on schedule. I have performed and directed the locking of boats and dam gate operations and am familiar with the processes, equipment, and maintenance activities involved in routine or special lock and dam operations. I can inspect completed work to ensure it meets standards, ensure that equipment, supplies, and materials are properly maintained. I work under normal supervision, Tasks are observed in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

* Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing and crouching. May occasionally lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes, enclosed switchgear structures, or on overhead structures. Climbs ladders and poles.

* Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, subject to changing climatic conditions, loud noises, prolonged standing, falling, water hazards, drowning, cuts and bruises. Works in cramped places and is exposed to dirt, grease, fumes, and dust; works around heavy construction machinery, with and around power shop equipment. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level.
