Job Description
The Lock Shop Maintenance Specialist is an entry-level position in the Access Department. Assists Lock Shop Manager with the daily operations of the Access Department including scheduling, and making job assignments. Oversees several security databases for the department. Ensures operation of all doors and door hardware including fire exit doors, exterior doors, and interior doors in all Student Affairs facilities. Administers lock changes and lock cores in over 50 residence halls, dining centers, and office facilities representing approximately 250+ lock changes a year. Assists with maintaining an inventory system of locks and lock changes in accordance with established procedures to assure security. Assists Lock Shop Manager with daily record-keeping and yearly key control audits. Works closely with outside contractors and vendors and issues temporary electronic access cards, ensures that the cards are returned or deactivated, and regularly audits access cards. Receives and inputs requests for brass keys and electronic key box access. Works closely with Sign Shop Specialist and assists with the design and creation of University-approved signage for Student Affairs buildings. Maintains knowledge of departmental and university key and security policies. This position includes a three-year training program that culminates in the successful candidate becoming a Certified Locksmith. This position is considered restricted for the first three years. At the successful completion of the training program (completion of 33 training courses and 3 years of employment), the position will be changed to a regular staff position. During the first 3-years of the restricted position, salary will be adjusted annually based on satisfactory job performance and successful completion of the scheduled trainings.
Required Qualifications
* High School Diploma
* Experience with maintaining inventory and record keeping.
* Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and security of highly sensitive records and materials.
* Ability to take classes online and complete specified course work, independently and
on schedule
* Ability to successfully complete training program and receive certification as a Locksmith
* Must maintain and meet the requirements of the Apprenticeship Program Agreement
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous locksmith experience with Best IC core experience.
* Working knowledge of maintenance methods; maintenance materials, tools and procedures; maintenance safety practices.
* Demonstrated experience and good mechanical skills in areas such as carpentry, low voltage electricity, and general maintenance.
* Experience with sign engraving/design.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
* Working knowledge of computers.
