NoPosition Purpose: The Locksmith/Access Control and Security Tech B will have skills and knowledge in the installation, maintenance, and repair of a variety of security and access systems including door hardware, keys, combination and electronically operated locks and hardware. Working in a service-oriented environment, the Locksmith/Access Control Tech B will successfully communicate with members of the Dartmouth community while carrying out their tasks.Required QualificationsTechnical school graduate or have equivalent educational and vocational experience.Must have at least four years of relevant experience of which two must have been served as an apprentice or equivalent position.Working knowledge of and demonstrated skills in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of security systems (key, combination, electronic).Must have a valid driver's license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.Preferred QualificationsAbility to read blueprints, schematics, and hardware schedules.Skill in the use of hand and power tools, analog/digital test equipment, man lifts, testing devices, and ladders.Skills related to troubleshooting door hardware and locks.Ability to follow complex written and oral assignments and communicate effectively.Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, exercise sound judgment, and have excellent problem-solving skills.Successful completion and compliance in all safety or trades-related course work as may be required by the College.Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with knowledge of Microsoft Office products.Willingness to work overtime as required including supporting college events as needed.Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.ResponsibilitiesInstalls new locks and door hardware on interior and exterior doors, files, cabinets, and equipment casings as needed and as part of new construction and remodeling projects.Troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, and maintains existing door hardware whether electronic or mechanical, including door closers, ADA operators, and disassembling locks and replacing worn parts.Picks locks as required.Cuts and issues new keys to authorized personnel.Rekeys locks for security purposes, changes locker combinations.Plans and installs key systems in accordance with the Access Control Shop's practices for Master Key systems and maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all keys, locks, and other security devices.Maintains record keeping for inventory of hardware supplies and tools; assists in preparing purchase requisitions as necessary.Plans work details and follows schematics, wiring diagrams, or blueprints on all equipment and systems as defined above.Determines work methods to accomplish assignments such as repairs, replacements, or new installations.Reviews drawings and plans and recommends appropriate security devices throughout the campus.Enters data into the access control system.Assists in performing regular testing and maintenance of access control and alarm intrusion systems.Coordinates installation with the Department of Safety & Security (DOSS), departments, and various maintenance and operations trades personnel.Equal Opportunity EmployerDartmouth College is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
