Job Description:
VHS is seeking a part time Emergency Medicine Physician in Fort Liberty (Ft. Bragg), North Carolina.The Emergency Medicine Physician conducts essential medical assessments and treatments as directed by the MTF and Emergency Medicine Department Chief. They rapidly evaluate routine, urgent, and critical medical issues, leveraging specialized Emergency Medicine training to effectively manage a wide array of conditions. This includes Skin, Head, Ears, Eyes, Nose, Throat, Mouth, Teeth, Neck, Cardiovascular, Pulmonary, Gastrointestinal, Lymphatic, Musculoskeletal, Genitourinary, Reproductive, Psychiatric, Central Nervous, Endocrine, and Peripheral Nervous System concerns.Compensation & Benefits:
  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Emergency Medicine Physician: $230.00 to $242.00 per Hour.Pay commensurate with experience. Will include limited benefits. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.
  • This position requires a Minimum of 4, 12-hour shifts per month.
  • Shifts are 7am -7pm and 7pm-7am. Weekend shift rotation expected.
  • Relocation reimbursement may be available at the discretion of the contract manager.
Emergency Medicine Physician Responsibilities Include:
  • Administer intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications
  • Conduct anoscopy
  • Perform arthrocentesis (excluding hip)
  • Manage burns, take cultures (throat/wound), perform ear irrigation, conduct eye irrigation, remove ingrown toenails
  • Remove sutures, manage wound care (assessment and direction of management)
  • Remove foreign bodies (rectal, extremity, uncomplicated ear/nose)
  • Perform incision and drainage of abscesses and thrombosed hemorrhoids
  • Interpret initial radiographs
  • Manage envenomations and exposure to hazardous materials
  • Manage uncomplicated orthopedic extremity injuries (splints)
  • Interpret laboratory results
  • Repair complex lacerations (excluding flexor tendon and neurovascular damage repair)
  • Perform simple laceration repair
  • Administer local anesthesia (topical/infiltration) and regional anesthesia (digits)
  • Provide nebulizer treatments
  • Conduct ocular tonometry, fluorescein tests, and slit lamp examinations
  • Perform venous puncture for laboratory studies
  • Ensure and maintain proper airway
  • Establish and maintain intravenous access via peripheral routes
  • Collect and document medical and social history data in appropriate format
  • Conduct general physical examinations and record findings
  • Determine medical qualifications for various purposes based on examination findings
  • Familiarize with the hospital formulary and prescribe drugs listed
  • Generate and maintain accurate medical records for beneficiaries according to AR 40-66 (Medical Records and Quality Assurance Administration)
  • Adhere to established operating procedures of the MTF and related clinics
  • Participate in quality control activities of the MTF, including department-specific quality control initiatives.
  • Engage in graduate medical education (GME) programs, serving as an attending physician with responsibilities encompassing administrative duties related to quality assurance and process review/improvement.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Emergency Medicine Physician Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities:
  • Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident of the US.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in one of the 50 states in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Hold a Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy degree with training in Emergency Medicine.
  • Board Certified in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. *Will consider ABEM certification eligible Emergency Medicine Residents that are in the final months of completing residency.
  • Maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) from the American Heart Association. Documentation of training required and re-certification responsibility lies with the contractor. Certifications must be renewed annually at no cost to the Government.
  • Effective communication in English with patients, other Health Care Providers, and MTF employees.
  • Fulfill Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements without reimbursement from the Government. Contractor HCPs may attend MTF CME classes on a space-available basis with Department Chief approval, ensuring no interference with department clinical schedules. MTF CME attendance is at the contractor's personal time.
