Job Description:

EchoStar has an exciting opportunity within our Hughes Network Systems division for a Logistics Freight/Transportation Specialist. This person will be responsible for helping to improve the logistics program by working with carriers, forwarders, brokers & 3PLs to provide options to optimize transit times with high reliability while minimizing cost. This role will work with partners to reduce delays of transportation for production material inbound and finished goods heading to our customers. This position will be located at our Manufacturing facility in Germantown, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Solicit and analyze rate quotes from freight-forwarders, carriers, and brokers for urgent shipments & special programs.
  • Arrange bookings based on approved quotes.
  • Audit, code, and approve freight, brokerage, and customs invoices
  • Track, troubleshoot, & communicate shipping exceptions in transportation that may cause delays.
  • Gather information on freight damage or loss, file claims, and monitor freight claim status until closure.
  • Act as the point of contact for freight companies and 3PL storage facilities.
  • Work and support freight RFQ process for multiple services such as parcel, less than truckload (LTL), full truckload (FTL), ocean container, import/export freight forwarders, and customs brokerage.
  • Monitor and suggest improvements of transportation programs to increase performance while minimizing costs.
  • Interface with Hughes Network Systems departments, vendors, customers, customhouse brokers, and freight forwarders to meet the above responsibilities.
  • Act as a backup for export operations, including creating export documents while working with the shipping department.
  • Learn and act as a backup for import operations, including customs clearance and HTS classification.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in a supply chain, logistics, business, or combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in negotiation and managing parcel, LTL, and international transportation rates.

?Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced MS Excel Skills, including to ability to generate formulas, pivot tables, and macros.
  • Prior experience in export-import compliance, logistics, freight forwarding, freight brokerage or related field, and operations.
  • Understanding of export/importing principles such as export classifications, harmonized tariffs, Scheduled B numbers, INCO terms, country of origin, carnet, duties, and taxes.
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Solid organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks, and to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with tight and frequently changing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong Negotiation skills.
  • Experience with ACE including filing Electronic Export Information (i.e., AES direct).
  • Must be flexible to work long hours, holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Advanced PC skills, proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in SAP Sales and Distribution module and/or GTS or compatible Import/Export Management Software experience is a plus.

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
