Summary:
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for processing drivers' daily logs according to company policy and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) guidelines. The Safety Coordinator trains drivers in correct log procedures and documents disciplinary action according to company policy. The Safety Coordinator processes driver employment applications including but not limited to running background checks. This position also provides administrative and clerical support to the department.
Essential Functions:
- Audits drivers' daily logs through competent use of log audit equipment and/or software. This process includes, but is not limited to, receiving and processing daily logs according to established company procedure; and auditing logs completely and accurately while complying with FMCSR and established company policy regarding hours of service regulations.
- Functions as the direct employee contact for questions and concerns regarding the proper completion of drivers' daily logs.
- Handles log violations in a timely manner, in accordance with company policy, and documents appropriately.
- Counsels drivers regarding initial drivers' daily log violations and documents appropriately. Refers serious violations to Director.
- Handles driver orientations by coordinating post-offer physicals and drug tests, providing training and testing to new hires on procedures, Haz-Mat, hours of service.
- Assists the Director in counseling drivers regarding any and all safety related matters in accordance with established procedures and company policy. Interacts as needed with other appropriate department personnel to resolve driver safety issues.
- Prepares weekly and quarterly reports, including but not limited to, Accident Register, MVR's, and Roadside Inspections.
- Maintains driver qualifications files within the department, including initial and annual updates. This includes handling pre-employment background checks, employment verifications, etc.
- Assists the Director in maintaining manuals, registers, charts and other documents within the department.
- Answers phones within the department and directs calls to the person and/or department responsible for handling matters in question outside the scope of this job description.
- Keeps the Director advised of all compliance related issues within the company.
- Assist in the processing of cargo claims.

- Maintains a risk management perspective when dealing with employee issues.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding company and department matters.
- Follows written procedures as documented in the Trailer Bridge ISO 9001:2000 quality processes.
- Upholds company policies.
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years previous administrative, safety, or human resource experience, preferably in the trucking industry.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational and clerical skills.
- Ability to perform a high volume of detailed work accurately.
- Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Good computer skills (working knowledge of IBM AS/400 and Microsoft software a plus).
