Position Type: Substitute/Substitute TeacherDate Posted: 6/13/2024Location: Glenn Westlake Middle SchoolDate Available: August 12District: Lombard Elementary District 44Long Term Substitute: Special Education Middle School August 12th - October $140/Day, Day 1-30 $200/Day, Day 31+JOB GOAL: Responsible for providing classroom coverage for a certified staff member who is absent for an extended period of time. Provide students with appropriate supervision, learning activities and experiences, in the academic area assigned to help them fulfill their potential intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assumes all responsibilities or, and duties assigned to, the absent certified staff member.
  • Follows and presents lessons as outlined and described in materials prepared by the absent teacher if available.
  • Executes all necessary planning, organization, student evaluation and grade reporting.
  • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classrooms to which they are assigned.
  • Supervises and accounts for students in and out of classroom activities during the working day.
  • Develops rapport with students and serves as a positive role model.
  • Evaluates student academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, prepares progress reports, and communicates with parents, if appropriate, through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and interpret the school program.
  • Implements appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Manages student behavior in accordance with District policies and procedures.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and behavior problems.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning by classroom technology when appropriate.
  • Upholds computer technology acceptable use policies.
  • Reports to the building principal or their designee to share issues or concerns.
  • Adheres to all procedures as delineated in the District 44 Substitute Handbook.
  • Keeps current with best practices and requirements as they relate to the job assignment.

  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and classroom management.
  • Ability to develop a quick rapport with students, building staff, and administration.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively -- written and verbal.
  • Proficient use of Google Suite and student information systems.
  • Maintain professional appearance.
  • Ability to perform non-medical duties, such as hygiene, diapering, feeding with or without accommodations if needed (primarily at the Early Childhood Center).
  • Follow all Board of Education policies.
  • Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Frequent walking.
  • Occasional lifting to 25 pounds or more (if moving classroom equipment, assisting with diapering/toileting services, etc.)
  • QUALIFICATIONS: (Education and Experience)
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Education and Experience)
  • Prior experience teaching in the subject area of the assigned classroom.
  • LBS1 Endorsement
  • EVALUATION: Performance is evaluated regularly by the building principal.
