Job Title: Long-Term Special Education Substitute TeacherLocation: RCESReports To: Principal or DesigneeJob Overview:The Long-Term Special Education Substitute Teacher provides instruction and support for students with disabilities in the absence of the regular Special Education teacher. This individual is responsible for delivering educational services that meet the individualized needs of students with special needs, following their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.Key Responsibilities:
  • Instruction and Curriculum Delivery:
    • Implement lesson plans left by the regular teacher and create supplementary plans when needed.
    • Modify instructional materials and methods to accommodate students' specific learning needs.
    • Provide instruction in core academic subjects, life skills, and social skills, as outlined in students' IEPs.
  • Classroom Management:
    • Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that supports students' academic and behavioral growth.
    • Implement classroom rules and procedures that promote positive behavior and engagement.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work with paraprofessionals, teaching assistants, and other support staff to ensure the best outcomes for students.
    • Communicate regularly with the school's administration, general education teachers, and the Special Education team.
    • Participate in IEP meetings if needed and contribute to the development and review of students' IEPs.
  • Assessment and Data Collection:
    • Monitor and track student progress, behavior, and performance.
    • Provide feedback and reports to school administration and the regular Special Education teacher.
    • Administer assessments as directed and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Compliance:
    • Adhere to all school district policies and procedures.
    • Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other relevant regulations.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all student information.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field.
    • Current teaching certification or special education endorsement is preferred but not required for substitutes.
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in a classroom setting.
    • Experience managing a classroom and delivering individualized instruction.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and instructional best practices.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Patience, flexibility, and the ability to adapt instruction to meet student needs.
    • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and assist students as needed for mobility or activities.
  • Ability to implement crisis intervention techniques, when necessary.
Term of Employment:
  • The position is temporary and will cover the duration of employee leave = 12 weeks
  • Expected dates: 12/16/24 to 03/14/25 (subject to change based on district needs).
Salary/Compensation:
  • Pay is based on the school district's substitute teacher pay scale.
  • Additional compensation may be provided based on experience and qualifications.
