As a Long-Term Substitute Teacher, you are first and foremost responsible for increasing student achievement by consistently ensuring the implementation of instructional practices and strategies endorsed by ChanceLight Education and in accordance with Ombudsman policies. In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, the Long-Term Substitute implements curriculum, classroom schedules, lessons/plans, and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of each student, considering state and school requirements and the students' physical, emotional, and educational levels of development. Responsibilities Include:
- Developing daily lesson plans and classroom schedule that reflects state and school requirements.
- Delivering instruction and overseeing classroom activities through the use of curriculum materials and educational software.
- Collaborating with fellow teachers and other support staff to provide instructional support and approved modification to the curriculum.
- Implementing standards for student behavior in order to ensure a safe, secure and effective learning environment and anticipating potential behavior problems by maintaining line-of-sight supervision of assigned students at all times.
- Maintaining a firm, fair, and consistent approach to the instruction of students utilizing a high degree of structure and clear expectations.
- Maintaining regular contact with students' parents/guardians to inform of student's progress, areas of difficulties, and any changes or situations in home life that may affect school performance.
- Actively participating in team meetings when necessary to address specific student and parent concerns.
- Assessing student progress through consistent review of classroom data collection and recording systems.
- Keeping up to date with research-based practices and developments in subject area, resources, and professional development.
- Projecting a positive role model image for students and responding constructively to formal and informal feedback.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
This position operates with oversight and guidance from the Center Director in carrying out the essential duties and responsibilities to provide overall leadership, quality assurance, managerial and administrative support for the assigned students and Ombudsman program site. Qualifications Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a related field.
- Meet all state substitute teaching credential and/or licensing requirements.
- Prior experience working in a special education and/or classroom setting preferred.
- Prior experience in related grade level and/or subject matter preferred.
- Prior experience working with children in an alternative education program setting preferred.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and adapt to change and/or new initiatives.
- Advanced motivational, conflict resolution, problem solving, decision making, and organization skills.
- Highly effective oral and written communication.
- Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.
