SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Activity Leader will assist the Site Coordinator in the planning, developing, and implementing of classroom activities for after school programs at local schools. This position requires face-to-face leadership in this program and may involve early morning responsibilities. Other essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following: JOB FUNCTIONS:Program Management Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and leading daily lesson plans.
  • Participate and assist in daily classroom activities.
  • Provide weekly lesson plans to the Site Coordinator.
  • Provide each participant's parent with information on individual activities daily.
  • Prepare materials for daily activities.
  • Maintain records of attendance, arrival times, and departure times.
  • Always maintain supervision of children.
  • Attend all meetings, trainings and program planning sessions scheduled and/or specified by the Office of Extended Learning (OEL).
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Enforces all rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Uses positive behavior interventions supports/SEL methods; recommend or initiate other measures to correct behavior.
Please Note: All GRPS LOOP sites are licensed by the State of Michigan and operate under all guidelines and policies as outlined in the Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers Manual. This description describes the type and level of work performed by a person assigned to this position. It is not an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required in the position. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-year childcare or youth-related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Prior to working with students in a structured program setting, must complete LARA (PA116) mandated requirements:
    • Comprehensive Childcare Background Check (CCBC) including fingerprinting by LARA approved agencies.
    • Obtain CCBC eligibility to work in a licensed childcare facility.
    • Complete MiRegistry Health and Safety Online Modules A, B, C and Transportation or annual Health and Safety Refresher Course; submit learning record transcript to Office of Extended Learning upon completion.
    • Module A MUST be completed before working with students.
    • Obtain First Aid Certification and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by LARA approved agencies; submit ARC/AHA certificate/card to Office of Extended Learning upon completion.
  • Negative TB Test: verification of TB status is required
  • Valid state issued ID.
  • Fingerprinting required by hiring agency.
  • Child Abuse/Neglect Central Registry Check.
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles
  • Ability and desire to work with elementary and/or middle school children
  • Working knowledge of computers.

  • Strong collaborative and team-building skills; ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to coordinate volunteer and program-delivery efforts.
  • Human relations skills, including the ability to work with a diverse group of students, parents, administrators, teachers, volunteers, and community members.

  • Knowledge of youth development (developmental assets).
  • Good computer skills, including email, word processing, spreadsheet software, etc.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Supervisory experience.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
