To learn more about our school, please visit us at www.paulcuffee.orgReports to: Lower School Principal, After School Enrichment Program Manager & Head of SchoolHours: 1.0 FTE (37.5 hrs/week), Non-Exempt The role of a teaching partner & After School Club staff at Paul Cuffee School is an important one that adds to the overall sense of community amongst both students and teachers. In our After School Program, the role of the ASC staff is to provide a positive learning environment for students that allows for students' personal, social, and academic growth.A successful teaching partner/ASC staff should possess the following characteristics:

Duties as a Teaching Partner include, but are not limited to:
  • supervising students at arrival, breakfast, lunch, transitions, study, and/or dismissal, during in-school suspensions, and at any time when students are present
  • assisting teachers in any variety of ways:- helping organize materials- checking in with students at beginning and/or end of day to help them with organization- assisting students with classwork and/or projects- making copies- working with small groups or individual students to preview or review lessons- checking in homework, take attendance (if the teacher requests this)- correcting papers- actively participating in class activities, advisory circle times, field trips, etc.
  • Maintaining high expectations and school rules for students and enforcing those expectations and rules consistently, fairly, and respectfully
  • Working as a part of our behavioral system, as assigned
  • Honoring confidentiality
  • Other duties and tasks, as assigned
Duties as an After School Club staff include, but are not limited to:
  • Assuring the safety of students through the use of active monitoring
  • Implementing appropriate behavior and classroom management practices
  • Adhering to all behavior expectations as noted in the school's behavior policy
  • In conjunction with the site coordinator, developing curriculum and lesson plans for students that help promote and develop youth leadership skills
  • Leading educational and enriching activities through project-based learning methods
  • Motivating students to succeed by leading and teaching through varied learning environments
  • Assisting with homework help
  • Building strong relationships with students by serving as a positive role model and encouraging the joy of learning
  • Adhering to all rules and regulations set forth by DCYF
  • Completing 20 hours of training related to the child care field per the DCYF license
  • Managing and engaging classroom volunteers
  • Assisting with ASC-led family events
  • Tracking daily attendance in Youth Services data management system
  • Honoring confidentiality
  • Other duties and tasks, as assigned
Job Requirements:
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in an education-related field OR Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Program approved by the RI Department of Education AND a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
  • National background check (after offer)
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
